Doesn't sound to me like this person really knows much about the recordings of Sinatra and Nat and Basie and Ella and Louis, many of which are still the "goto" example of great recording technique, Mastering and, of course, performance.

CBO's famous "April in Paris" session comes to mind immediately, among many others. Classics, recorded well, performed without flaw. Single take stuff, no overdubs, everybody in the same room, maybe that's what the fellow really is trying to say.
