Carlos,
I don't hear ANY hiss, buzz, pops or clicks on your music. How do you get such a clean signal capture on that guitar? Give us an idea of your gear you use for capturing the guitar, please? Cabling used?
I don't think I ever heard an internet recording that didn't have some type of hiss/buzz going on with a guitar recording. Yours is flawless. What gear do you have in your rack there, LOL ? Thanks,
Trax
Thanks Trax. As I described in last reply, I used LINE6 PODxt as guitar direct recording box connected via USB to my PC and Real Band (with the propietary Line6 asio driver). That make a clean patch since all remain in the digital domain. However also depends on the guitar too, internal wiring and good shielded in order to avoid interferences and noises, even strings condition play a role. When I record guitar I use to stand away of magnetical/electrical fields or radiations coming from some electronic gear in studio like displays, transformers, racks. Localize and remove ground loops in AC electrical supply circuit, even when you are in a direct recording procedure try to stops air conditioners and other electrical motors around.
When I need an extra "valve" colour sometimes I use a PreSonus BlueTube as first stage for guitar...with its 12AX7 tube it bring a delicious warm analog soft overdrive that amp/ simulators devices welcome greatly!
My usual guitar gear...hardware and software: Guitar: Overloud TH1 1.1.3 vst/standalone ( I am member of the beta tester, demo writer and preset developer team for Overloud, Italy), LINE6 PODxt. M-Audio Black Box. Lexicon PCM-70, my goods and faithful asortment of analog pedals...some really vintage like BOSS Dimension C, an Ibanez TS-9 overdrive, a Big Muff and an old 25 years Cry Baby ! . Guitar amps: Roland Cube, Soldano T100C. For live I use them and also Marshall, Fender availables around and my bluesy jewel favorite: a Mesa Boogie LoneStar special 60 watt. For this recordings: Guitar Godin xtSA, pickup: neck (humbucker Godin/Seymor Duncan GHN1) strings: Ernie Ball 0.10, guitar cables: Fender California, Planet Waves and any cable well constructed/noise isolated. pick: 3mm. Jim Dunlop Big Stubby

Thanks Carlos for the detailed description of your set up, gear and styles used in Biab. It helps us out here have a better picture of how you achieved such a clean recording. Your musicianship is outstanding !!! Thanks for the heads up on your VST FX as well. I will have to look into some of them and see if I can use them here. The reverb you use is fantastic, btw I also like to combine styles in my songs, either as Hybrid or full style change at certain measures. They help build a song structure. Your music is outstanding. Thanks again for such a detailed description. Keep on track'n brother Trax

Thanks for sharing your tracks - these are some of the best tracks I have heard from this forum usng these wonderful tools. Love the guitar tone - something diferent from the picture? After reading your post I used some of the LA styles along with some Terry Clark Funk to come up with a nice new style. Thanks for sharing your ideas - I learned a lot!

Excellent sounds and very nice playing.
You are doing some amazing things with BIAB. I wish I could get my Band-In-A-Box to sound that good. Is there any where I can go to read about how to do what you are doing with BIAB? I'm pretty frustrated with BIAB and was about to start looking for another solution until I heard your material.
Thanks, Don

Carlos: I am unable to produce a video for you. I can only report that I am still in intensive care at Rio General. And my dancing, whirly-bird girl- friend is now in heaven, thanks to you! Every once in a while she beams down a song, such as... "Oh you met some one who set you back on your heels... Goodie Goodie! (or it could be she's sayin' Goodin Goodin..) Oh you met some one and now you know how it feels... Goodie Goodie! Oh you gave her your heart too... Just as I gave mine to you And, she broke it in little pieces... Now, how do you do??" Well, you get the drift...I can't immediately remember all the lyrics to that little ditty! ------------------------------------------------------- I got a call from Diana Krall She thought perhaps you'd like to be her next guitarist-accompanyist !? Well, I told her: ...Diana.... "Hooray and Halleleuya.. Carl will "have it comin' to ya"... Goody Goody for Dianna...Goody Goody for Carl and I hope her fans are satisfied, you rascall, you....!!! ohhhh...yeeaaaaahhh..... (take it out, now....) I HOPE YOU ARE SA-TIS-FIED..... you RASCAL, YOU!! P.S. You're divulging all your secrets, you devil!!!...let's have a few more "pics" of your studio..and a few guitar lessons to boot!! Love those Lexicons!!!

I realize you say that other forum members were/are your inspiration, but you play and record circles around everyone I've heard post on here. I'm sure I haven't heard everyone, as I doubt you were being disingenuous. You give the guys (and gals I suppose) who recorded the RB tracks a run for their money too. I was beginning to wonder if anyone else was using these programs to produce professional quality recordings, but I will not wonder any more. Carlos there is absolutely nothing to pick at in your playing or recording, and I am very picky. I have made my living from music for almost 35 years. Great job sir.

Carlos did a great job that's for sure. There was another guy from Venezuela who posted some equally outstanding stuff last year but he's not been heard from since. Maybe Carlos knows him. There's lot's of working pro's who use these programs but don't post their stuff for various reasons. Here's in the LA area I know several studio types and teachers who are all over every new release as soon as it comes out. One guy who's a good friend does a lot of commercial studio demo's and I've asked him several times to come here to the forum but he has no interest in it but make no mistake, he's a top working pro and uses these programs all the time. I suspect there's thousands like him all over the world. If you really want to get blown away do a forum search for member Harvey Gerst , he'll show up once or twice a year and if you're lucky his links are still active. He's apparently been working with Peter since v1. What he did using Biab with both midi and RT's in his studio is amazing. Google his name too. He's as pro as you can get. Another one you could check out is Doug Mckenzie in Australia. He's an excellent jazz pianist who has a whole series of Biab youtube videos. Here's his site Doug Mckenzie There's some midi's by him floating around the web that has him doing some really outstanding solo work. The problem of course with these people is they're actually working for a living doing music. Unlike most of us, they don't have time to haunt these forums too much. The one exception is our guy Mac. I don't know how he does it, he works all the time on commercial projects yet he's our resident expert and posts here all the time. He almost never posts any of his work though because it's all for his clients and he doesn't own it.

I'm too doggone $ oriented.
If there isn't someone paying for it, preferably UP FRONT, I find it difficult to make anything happen in the studio.
That's what happens when the thing becomes yer "day job" I guess.
But if you happen to own the joint, then the boss can't stop you from hittin' the internet all day long between trying to get work done. Its small and getting smaller by the day, it seems, but its all mine. Even the dust. There's lots of dust.
Also, I don't like being the "one man show" on recordings and those jobs mean you get to play with all these great cats and chicks and it just adds SO MUCH to the overall thing that it isn't funny comparing that to things I try to do by myself. Especially the singing part *grin*.
One of these days, though...

Thanks Bob, I agree, surely Band in a Box world users base is plenty of surprises and great talent remaining unknown for the rest of us, I enjoy each time some BIAB user showcase his/her work to our community. Do you remember the nick or some clue about of the venezuelan guy you mention? could be great if I try to contact or even maybe I already know him.

Way off topic but my wife and I went on a cruise ship, stop ped in Venezuela. $100 per person to go on a Bus to Caracas. Visit a mall, a church, a market and back. We are not so rich, we go to the gas station in town and see they have a bus. I get $20 US changed to ?Bolivars?, and we take the bus. We go to a subway, and it's amazing. We pay for that. We go to the market. WE see people from the cruise there. I get $100 US at the American Express store. OK. We go out and visit the market. Cool. We have lunch and 4 beers, (3 for me). We see the church and the cruise ship people are there. We go in and look. It starts to rain. We take with the other couple a taxi back 20 miles to the cruise ship. I still have cash so we buy 3 drinks each, and I buy 6 beers, I still have about $1 Us left. So we spend less than $20 US for the day, see the same places, eat, drink, take back beer for less than $20 US. We still laugh about that.
My daughter's best friend is from Caracas. The 15th birthday party was crazy!

Carlos, I have no idea now who that was. Now I'm wondering if it was you and I'm totally confused but you've only been here a few months, right? Did you post something here like a year and a half ago? The only thing I can remember now is Venezuela and some hot jazz guitar. If it wasn't you, maybe someone else remembers then you can find him on the users list.

Bob, not problem , I started in PGM forum some years ago with my old nick "jazzpick", recently I decide to unsuscribe from it and resign with my actual nick for my role as new spanish moderator, my old nickname, obviously musical style biassed, was not very impartial to all in the forum. I remember by october 2008 as "jazzpick" I did post a thread with a song video I wrote recording all on the fly with BIAB, MINA SAMBINHA VIDEO . In any case thanks so much for your kind words!.
