I was finally able to order a new Dell Laptop 15 5000 to start using Biab again. There was only 1 at the price I ordered and they sent me a slightly better Mhz version i5 8GB Ram and was *supposed* to be a 1TB HD, which is actually a 100GB (SSD) HD.
Obviously, I am unable to load Biab completely onto it.
How do I run Biab directly from the Biab (2015 version) HD to get the best performance out of both? What should I actually load onto my HD from the Biab HD, if anything?
Thanks,
Trax

just install the basic program on the computer and point the Realtracks, Realdrums etc to the hard drive during the install
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Yeah... ditto. Do the minimal install that puts only what you need on the C drive and references the PG hard drive for everything else. Since BB & RB load the tracks to memory, it will run perfectly in that configuration. That's how I have been running my setups for the past several years. No problemo. they sent me a slightly better Mhz version i5 8GB Ram and was *supposed* to be a 1TB HD, which is actually a 100GB (SSD) HD. Obviously, I am unable to load Biab completely onto it. To put it bluntly, If I ordered a 1TB drive and they sent me a 100GB drive instead, I would be highly perturbed, to say the least. That's only one tenth the size you ordered. Heck, my smallest drive in my DAW is 350GB for the C drive (it's 10 years old) and the backup data drive is a 1TB with another 1TB external.... What was the manufacturer thinking? Nobody uses a 100Gb ( .1TB drive ) these days. I'd be on the phone DEMANDING a replacement with the specs I paid for.

To put it bluntly, If I ordered a 1TB drive and they sent me a 100GB drive instead, I would be highly perturbed, to say the least. Ballistic is a better word. I would fly to Round Rock Texas to throw that laptop through the front windows of Dell HQ. 100GB? I didn't think drives CAME that small in 2017.

I can't believe I'm (attempting to) answer an IT question. But... I went thru the SAME THING! Newegg...long story, but bottom line it came with a 512 GB SSD. There was supposed to be a 2nd drive (1 TB HDD), so now my laptop has 2; the SSD and a HDD. I Googled and I added a 2 TB HDD. I couldn't believe how easy it was. You pull the CD/DVD player out and replace it with either an SSD or HDD. Of course, then you have no CD/DVD player, but I didn't need one. (I still have it and if I needed it I could swap them out in 2 mins.) You need a "caddy," which is a little, aluminum tray that the disk drive fits into, and it needs to be specifically for your laptop. It will all fit snuggly and took about 10 mins to install. I couldn't believe it. You can buy the caddy for your 5000 here, $25, they also sell HDD/SSD, or get one elsewhere. https://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=585There are videos on Youtube showing you how to install it. Good luck either way.

I think his point was more that he didn't get what he was told he would get. We could ALL add stuff out of our own pocket, but he was misled by Dell and DELL should be buying him an additional drive. To advertise 1T (or 1000G) and send 100G, that's the stuff lawsuits are made of.
Trust me. They would have heard me in Texas from my house in Ohio without a phone had they done this to me. This kind of consumer abuse just flips every trigger I have.

I was triggered by "There was only 1 at the price I ordered" and went to the German Dell site. There it tells me: Anpassbarer Massenspeicher: Entscheiden Sie sich für eine festplatte mit bis zu 1 TB Speicherplatz und ... (in English: Choose a hard drive with up to a 1 TB memory and...). So, my first option after something similar to Eddie's roar would be to calm down enough to check my order. Maybe it was my own blooper. If not, then there is still ample time to talk to Dell in a professional manner. Usually there is an acceptable way to resolve these kind of things -- and by the way: Dell is not known to trick their customers like this. If they did, they'd be out of business.

Trax, During the install, near the beginning, there will be a screen where you have to select your install options. This is the first opportunity.
After installing, if for instance you move the drive, you can use the Song Generation options in Prefs to relocate the RTs and RDs.

Thanks Rharv,
I have them pointed in the right direction now. Just a lil rusty with Biab from not using it for a year.

*** UPDATE ***
The company is giving me a very generous refund for shipping me the wrong Laptop. The laptop they sent is actually better then the original one I ordered, except for the HD size.
I can purchase another HD.
Everything is working fine with Biab so far.

Nice Glad it worked out You still have to clone the existing drive to the new one, but if the refund is good you should be in good shape. It'll involve a little of your time, but otherwise should be easy.

Trax Well, sounds like they did ship the wrong one. Dell is a good company and I've had their products and never had any problems getting service when it was needed. They even sent a tech to my house two times to replace hard drives in the computers my daughters had. And sometimes the newest and best isn't always the best option when it comes to what you're going to use the machine for. Sometimes, the older machine just makes it easier.
