Anybody know what a yellow flashing light might mean above the blue light that shows my computer in on.

Hope I'm not in trouble with my Asus desktop.

Hard disk activity, normal?

Maybe the computer found out you were considering Windows 7...

Maybe it has always done that and I didn't notice it. It does seem to be a warning of some kind. It is a continuous flashing and not when my hard drive is doing anything.

Well, I don't know then.

I just looked at pictures from Best Buy of their current Asus desktop computers, and they clearly have the power and hard drive LEDs on the upper front panel.

Your computer often does housekeeping chores when idle, so it's perfectly normal to see the hard drive light blinking even if you aren't doing anything.

Does your PC work OK?

Everything seems to be working as usual, so I might just keep watching it for a few days. Thanks.

It is indeed your hard drive activity light.

Hard drive can go to work if Windoze tasks it with some background chore.

Another reason for the activity can be due to what is called temperature compensation. You see, the heads that read the magnetic disks are so close to the disk surfaces that it is not good to leave them sit in one place too long. So the designer built a bit of code into the disk drive circuits that will move the headarm around for a bit after it has sat in one place for awhile. Benign, and normal operation.

Thanks, Mac for the information. It is a relief to know it is usual activity for the hard drives.
