I've been trying, with no success, to find a way to use the BIAB soloist function for ear training, analogous to the way that the Music Replay program works. I would like to have the soloist play for two measures, then remain silent for two measures (with bass and drums still playing) while I try to replicate what the soloist played; then play for two measures, etc.
Is there a way to do this?

P.S. I have BIAB 2007, and also have PowerTracks Pro.

That's from the help file: Trade 4’s: There is a type of soloing called "Fours" soloing - Band-in-a-Box can generate the first four or the second four bars. Taking 'Fours' refers to a solo lasting four bars, usually followed by a different melodic solo (or drum solo) for the next four bars etc. It is fun to solo along with Band-in-a-Box in 4s mode, letting the computer solo for four bars, followed by your solo. The modus allows for Trade 2's and Trade 8's too. In addition, check out the BB add-on CopyMe by Miles Black.

Thanks for the quick reply.
One problem I'm having is that the soloist plays lead in notes prior to the start of his bars, and often continues to the end of his bars. This is cool, of course, musically, but when I'm trying to use it for ear training, it means I am hearing the start of a new line while I am still trying to play the previous one.
Is there a way to tell the soloist to confine its playing to the allotted bars?

Try deactivating Soloist -> Solo Mode/Custom... -> OK to solo for an extra beat. Seems to be only mildly effective, though.

Yeah Mac, Practice window is a learning/practicing tresaurus itself. Ed, good idea on use soloist as ear training resource, I do that sometimes but I go fine just by manually mute response bars. Good luck

The other feature you could try is the "break bars" . That mutes the entire band every N bars, lasting M bars (N and M are settable). Edit-Prefs-Arrange-BreakBars. So you could play 1 bar, then have it mute 3 bars, allowing you time to learn the phrase (note that you have to also keep in time in your head, so its timing practice too).
