Well, a static Midi file is just that, static.

While BIAB uses Midi to synthesize instruments, there is a lot more going on under the hood than just note-on, note-off and a few other commands being sent out of the midi pipe, don't forget that things like RealDrums and now the RealInst are not Midi but PCM audio tracks that have to be assembled, too.
