What might be the issue when the Real Track rhythm guitar part goes out of tune, or sounds very dissonant? It just started that recently. It's sporadic. Most of the time it plays OK. All the other parts sound fine. Have others experienced this? If so, what's the cure? I've not changed any settings on the laptop with the BIAB program.

That's odd.
Have you tried the standard gremlin-removal techniques?
1) restart BIAB 2) reboot the computer and any external MIDI synth 3) in BIAB, Opt., Return to Factory Settings
If that doesn't do it, reinstall the affected Real Tracks.
You don't have a Soundblaster by any chance, do you?

Most likely a setting outside of BIAB.
*Soundcard Control Panel locked to 48KHz instead of being allowed to run at 44.1KHz as the host (BIAB) dictates. This will make playback slightly sharp.
*Certain built in soundcards may have "karaoke" effects that can do pitch shifting by changing the sampling rate. Check your system Control Panel to see if you have anything like that, sometimes the thing gets changed to something other than A 440. The clue on this one is that ALL things played back will be in a different key, even audio files played back on the Windows Media Player.

+1 to Mac's post, I have had this exact problem and it always came down to a sample rate issue.

Hi There, I have had a few similar issues with dissonant chords sounding. I reported one instance of it (in the pop organ realtrack) to PG Tech support and they advised me that it was a problem with the realtrack file itself. Some similar issues were fixed with other realtracks within the 2009.5 realtracks delivery and a bunch more were fixed in a later update (there is a sticky message regarding this update at the top of this forum).
The problem is a little random. Sometimes a particular chord sequence will work perfectly in one part of the song but will sound discordant in another part of the song. I have used this randomness to effect a tactical solution by doing some cut and paste of the generated WAV file within my DAW (copying the OK instances and pasting them in instead of the discordant ones).
I think that there are still potentially a few unfixed realtracks files (to my ears some of the 'dreamy guitar' realtracks seem to have this problem but there may also be others).
Probably worth posting a copy of your BIAB song file to PG Tech support and seeing if they confirm that it is the same issue. (although I would make sure that you have downloaded the latest realtrack updates first and see if this cures the problem).
Regards, Aubrey
P.S. - If everything is sounding permanetly discordant then Mac's advise re. the soundcard sample rate sounds like a good bet.
If I hadn't seen such riches I could live with being poor.

Many thanks for the suggestions. A restart seems to solve the problem for a while. The out of tune tracks only happen intermittingly. It's primarily on the Freddie Green comping real tracks, which I use a lot. I think I've got the latest of everything installed. Need to check on that.

I have had the same problem using the Freddie Green track. Cm7 sounded like a C7#9.

Yes, the Freddie Green RT's are the only ones I've had problems with. For the moment, it's cured itself. It just comes and goes. Gigged last night with no problems. However, tomorrow may be different. I wish pgmusic would look into that, if enough problems are reported. Out of that long list of guitar RT's the "Green" tracks are the only ones I use, since I do a lot of swing jazz tunes.

Did you download and install the latest Real Track patches from September 15?
Have you listened to the Real Track audio files themselves? There will be a few of them to listen to, but I diagnosed a problem with another Real Track instrument by doing this.
As Aubrey said, you could send the song to PG Music. Also make an audio recording snippet that demonstrates what you are hearing, and post it for us.

Hello, Yes, it would be good if you could send an email to support@pgmusic.com referring to this forum post, and attach a Band-in-a-Box song file (.SGU or .MGU) that shows the problem.

Well, it's working OK for the moment. Played a 3-hour gig with no out-of-tune tracks. I'm using the Forte with a 64 bit laptop. If it happens again (hope not), I'll try to send a file to the support site cited above.
