Hey Folks

A few minutes ago here I was just re-reading all the replies & posts relating to this topic a few days ago and while many of you mentioned REAL BAND, REAPER, MULTI TRACK STUDIO, SONAR HOME STUDIO, POWER TRACKS, BIAB, ABLETON LIVE...............no one mentioned CUBASE..............Hmmmmmmmm !! I have a copy of Cubase SX3 on my Dell Latitude 610 Laptop and I find it's great. Ofcourse, I was formerly introduced to CUBASE via the LE version that came bundled upon purchase of my LEXICON OMEGA interface. Any one in here work with CUBASE SX3 or the new CUBASE 5 version?

I realize that SONAR seem to be a natural route with many real band, PT and BIAB users.

I'm just curious as to why CUBASE was not mentioned. In other words, are there ANY CUBASE folks up in here???? Hit me back y'all.

I have cubase 4 AI that came with my motif. I installed it but I don't use it. I use sonar. I started out with sonar based solely on their user forum because it's so helpful and I haven't looked back.

Hey Beagle

I bought Sonar 4 Studio edition back in 2004 and I have it installed on my Dell Latitude 610 laptop. One thing I was trying to do is edit an audio track and I'm like how do I do this. With Cubase, I just highlight and edit but when I highlight the track in SONAR 4...a piece of the track moves and the rest stays.....I am like what in the world is this? I guess, I haven't really dug in with reading the manual....................but ???????????????. Maybe I need to get deeper into the manual and HELPS section.

you can do that in sonar as well. things are just done differently. when you click and drag, sonar expects that you are trying to move the waveform in the timeline. if you want to highlight a section of the waveform for editing, use the ALT-click - or drag along the timeline itself.

If you do some web searching, you will find plenty of Cubase users.

Personally, I think that Cubase is a bit cumbersome on the GUI side, lots of things not intuitive and to my way of thinking, hard to find or remember where I found them again. So I gravitated away from it. YMMV, of course.

I have a copy of Cubase VST which came bundled with my TASCAM US-224 interface. It is fully featured except for having only one level of undo. I poked a stick at it until I got a copy of its big brother, NUENDO. Your version of Cubase should do anything a DAW should.

I agree with Mac to a point. I found it difficult to repeat certain operations until I began to "write my own manual" for processes I used frequently. Once I got past that I was okay. A positive difference about Steinberg products is that you can customize the interface in certain ways to suit your liking.

I recommend getting a third-party 'manual' such as "Cubase Power." Steinberg manuals are beautifully written and comprehensive, but sometimes a little perspective can help. Steinberg also have user forums. You must register your product to take part.

R.
