Dear All,
I find the Terry Clarke Swing and Bossa Real Drums excellent.
However, I find the more modern patterns (JazzModernTerryClarke; JazzModJDTerryClarke; and JazzModEv16TerryClarke) much too 'busy' or 'aggressive'.
In particular, they have a lot of crash-cymbal histrionics on the pre-fill and fill patterns (Bars 4 and 5) for both the A and B sub-styles. I'm not criticising: I'm sure this is perfect for some numbers and people.
I would find some laid-back 'Bill Stewart-style' RD's incredibly useful. I'm sure Terry Clarke could knock out some of these very easily.
For me, the distinctive features of what I've called the Bill Stewart style are:
a) The dominant sound is simply stick-tip on ride cymbal - with very little resonance or sizzle - essentially a 'tap' only.
b) Complex, varying, ride-patterns which swing - but often seem like an Even-8 pattern.
c) Sparing, funky punctuation on the snare, rim-shots, bass drum & toms.
d) Very subtle stuff at the pre-fills and fills, rather than exploding crash cymbals.
If Terry could do something like that for a good range of tempos - and just in sticks and brushes (no need for all the other variations) - that would be really fantastic.

Yeah i'm all up for that. BIAB have yet to come up with Real Drums that could replace some of the better modern jazz midi styles. In particular those ones that as you say seem like somewhere between swing and straight 8th note with complex ride patterns.
Another drummer that comes to mind in this vein is Peter Erskine; never a guy to just bash everything in sight.
Incidentally am I alone in thinking that the most modern sounding jazz swing style BIAB has is in fact the 'b' section of LONDONER.sty which is hidden away in the fusion section? For me it's got that 'in- between' swing and straght feel you refer to but with a lot of snare accents.

I could work with that.  I also would like some slightly sparse power drums, like Cowboy Mouth's Fred LeBlanc or mid-era Phil Collins.
