There was a post that got totally off track and Happy Trails and I took it on out to the "Outer Limits".
Here are our last few posts. Happy Trails posted 1, 2, &3. One of my posts is the last one. Just look back to the previous posts to follow the whole thing.
I'm just wondering, what do the rest of you think?
(1) Locked in a safe? Over here we keep our guns within reach. And we have 20,000 gun deaths a year to prove it!
-------------------- Like the man said, "ain't that a kick in the head!" Post Extras:
(2) Capitalism is an engine that depends on useless consumption and waste.
Communism sounds good on paper but it is completely against human nature and requires a repressive government to enforce it.
Socialism is in between. People cannot live together without a certain level of socialism.
But either way, 1% of the people end up getting rich off the work of the other 99%.
-------------------- Like the man said, "ain't that a kick in the head!" Post Extras:
(3) Well you can ask God for whatever you like - (semi) free country.. Personally I see no conection between God and the USA and have little use for patriotism or religion. But I support your right to!
And - I'd never belong to club with such low standards that it'd allow me to join!
-------------------- Like the man said, "ain't that a kick in the head!" Post Extras:
Happy Trails,
Whether you or I like it or want it, God has blessed the USA.
I'm not a paticularly religous person, but I do believe in giving credit where credit is due.
I am however a VERY patriotic person. All I have to do is look at the sacrifices my dad made for his country and the opportunities it gives both of us to speak our minds.
So when I say "God Bless the USA", it not as much a request as it is a desire for God to continue to do what He's already been doing.
So please keep speaking your mind, but please find someone to thank for that privilege, whether it's God, the forefathers or the veterans; (like my dad); who have given you the blessing of speaking freely without fear of someone breaking down your door because you have said what you think.
I'm pretty much a "party hardy" guy, but I do feel indebted to those who've given us the chance to speak freely.

Bob, why is this discussion in a music forum? Seems to me there are more suitable places on the 'net.

Noel,
I didn't start the thread this sprang from, (see the Hunter S. Thompson thread), and if you will notice I put in the subject line "if we want to discuss".
I do enjoy discussing off topic things with the folks in the PG family because I at least know something about numerous people in the family because of years of reading many posts and participating in those discussions, several of which had nothing to do with music. It's simply musicians talking about various topics.
It's more interesting than talking to total strangers.
If you don't like the topic, then do the same thing I do. Ignore it.

You can take the alligator out of the swamp(very carefully) but can't take the swamp out of the gator. What I mean is it all influences our music and when you deal with something as nebulous as music life continually barges in and changes our temperament. So I'm not worried by the occasional trip in the swamp, but i sure don't want to live there. To me, music is about questioning life and where we fit in, others may disagree and that's valid to. Just two cents and change Wyndham

I agree it is, Windham, often. And sometimes it's just about sitting so contendedly and watcin' the river flow.

Lot of good songs written about swamps and the Bayou. Tony Joe White, CCR come to mind first.

I grew up in the coastal area of SC and the moonshiners used to have their stills in HellHole swamp where black bears, halamagators(musical ref to the song " Audubon Park") and a few revenuers lived. Beautiful, peaceful but "Stinks to high blue Heaven" (musical ref "Dead Skunk in the middle of the Road", a Texas treasured song).... I just don't want to live there. Wyndham

Kind of reminds me of the smugglers around the south coast of England in the late Middle Ages when the import duties were too much for the French and Spanish wines and brandies, thus virtually creating a prohibition on foreign wines and spirits. The contraband would be smuggled in during the night and deposited in lakes and ponds so that the taxmen could not find them. Then, when the coast was clear (literally), they would be pulled out of the water and sent on their way to London or Bristol or wherever. Once, they were caught in the act (presumably when the barrels were still under water) but the smugglers thought quickly and claimed they were 'raking in the moon' the taxmen believed them! Hence the term 'Moonraker' and this probably was the basis of Ian Fleming's idea for James Bond. Thus leading to the James Bond title song for the film of the same name sung by Shirley Bassey

So that's where the expression "the coast is clear" comes from!
And yet, governments continue to believe if they outlaw something there's a damand for, they can keep it from people.

Absolutely, Matt
Couldn't agree more. But threads like this will continue to spring up for as long as the moderators don't pull the plug on them.

Pull the thread if you want, for me and my part, it's just a light hearted respite in an all too serious time. " as my green scales fall like rain, I'll beat a hasty retreat to the cave" sometime nonsense is good sense, just my two cents, later Wyndham

I plead guilty of drifting off a music related topic in a few posts...
But those that indicate that there are plenty of politically oriented forums out there are correct. Been on a few myself.
I'm holding on to the theory that music is primarly a unifying force rather than a dividing one. I lurk here mostly, but I've seen a lot of real heart-felt support for folks here on this forum, and I'd like to see that continue. Let's not let our personal political, philisophical, or religious views divide us from each other.
Rather, let us allow the music to inspire and unite us.
I have strong opinions on a LOT of stuff...but perhaps this isn't the place to express the non-music ones.
Peace.
