Hi,
either I'm having a senior moment or what.
Just got back to using BIAB, downloaded 2017.
Having trouble with chords window.
They don't show up in existing songs, or when I type them in?
Am I missing something, or could I have a faulty download.
Done it twice.

The first thought that jumped into my mind was to wonder if you had installed BIAB properly. Are you running BIAB from your computer's hard drive or have you installed it elsewhere?
Also, have you tried opening an existing song to see what happens?
One thing to try... with either the program's startup shortcut or the BBW.EXE file in the program folder (x:\bb)...
1. right-click on the file
2. choose 'Properties'
3. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, select "Run as administrator"
Does this make a difference?

If you just copied the files, this will happen because the program uses its own fonts. Use the setup program to install BIAB and select one of the four options.

Yes, as Matt correctly mentioned, you must run the installer program which sets several settings in the Windows system for BiaB to operate correctly, and especially with the availability of fonts - which would affect the chords display.

Hi Guys,
I did run install , not copy. Ran it over the top of biab 2016, did it the same way as my previous installs as far as I'm aware. Biab is installed in my computer, I run the real drums and instruments from an external drive.
I'll try what Noel suggested tomorrow.
Got me slightly concerned now. I renewed my virus protection the other day, and it appears to be trying to block programs I never had problems with before.
I would imagine if 2016 works ok with chord symbols, why wouldn't 2017, or is it using new fonts or something.

As you say, if 2016 works ok, then 2017 should work fine too. There is a new font in BIAB 2017 but I can't imagine that that is the problem. From what you've typed above, everything should be going fine for you.
What is your antivirus software? Is it Norton perchance? Over the years, there have been a few instances on these forums where Norton has been a bit antagonistic towards BIAB.
Another thing to try...
Firstly, under OPTIONS on the top menu, select the option that allows you to save you preferences and save your current setup. Doing this before playing with set up possibilities is always a good safety net.
Now...
1. Close BIAB.
2.In the \bb folder, find the files "intrface.bbw" (notice there's no 'e' in the filename) and "mysetup.dk" and rename them to "intrface.bbw.old" and "mysetup.dk.old". This will force BIAB to create brand new versions of these setup files. By renaming them as above, it makes it easy to locate them and return them to the original files if needed.
3. Start BIAB.
Once renaming the files as above, you will be prompted to again setup you MIDI and audio drivers.

Good tips above.
Did you turn off the virus checking software during the installation? This is an infrequent but known problem with some of them.
All else fails, give PG Music Support a call Monday.

If my memory is correct Band-in-a-Box 2015 has a chord entry preview window that shows the chord names as they are typed in. When the ENTER or TAB keys are depressed to move the cursor to the next entry cell, the entered chord name moves from the preview window to the current entry cell.
PG Music changed how chord entry is displayed in either version 2016 or 2017. The change was made as part of the ongoing effort to clean-up the space on top of the chord sheet. The preview window is gone and chord entry is displayed in the current entry cell of the chord sheet.

Another item to check is for any relevant information in the x:\bb\data\FlashMessageLog.txt file
You can check this from the Help > Utilities > Display Log text... option
Note that the latest data is at the top of the file

Thank you so much guys for the help.
Got it sorted. It was my virus protection.
Even though I've been using Trend for the last 3 years, it's never caused problems before, I've never had to turn it off when installing biab, ( or any other software) hence didn't occur to me it might be the cause.
Wiser next time round.
So thank you all, ( husband thanks you too, I was driving him nuts , while I was trying to work out what went wrong, haha)
