The range of the notes is controlled by the Options in the Notation Editor window.

The dropdown towards the center.

You enter the notes on the staff, but as you probably know, Bass sounds an octave lower than written to keep the poor Bass Players of the world from having to read only ledger lines below the staff.

Set the transpose to either -12 or perhaps there is a setting in there for Bass to pick from the dropdown window selection and your part will then sound in the range of a Bass.
