I am recording in Realband but the synth sound I pick from my analog 3 does not sound when recording, I hear piano which is not coming from the synth,(already checked this out). If I keep the take the proper sound selected has been recorded. This has to be an issue in Realband. Has anyone come across this issue?

Hi Rich

I think you will find this previous post of mine covers your problem
Let me know:

http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=63093&Number=421946#Post421946

part Quote:

"One of my must have preferences is to have the selected track voice play thu from the midi keyboard not the default piano.

This is easy in Realband’s Options / preferences / midi /midi thru / set track specific
This way if I am recording a trumpet by playing notes into a track while recording I hear a trumpet or what ever other instrument I choose on any track I hear that tracks voice ."

Regards
Mike

Thank you Mike. I am already using Track specific. What do you mean by Starting and stopping the transport? Do you mean playing and stopping the song?

This post has been updated. I mistakenly stated that I was told to use global and not track specific. I am using Track specific and still having this issue. I was never told to use Global.
Thanks again,
Rich

Yes with the song at the start allow it to run the first couple of measures to initialise the synths with the track voices / patch data.

Also read the next part of my original linked post this could be your problem as the external synth is on a different port. May shed some light!

Mike

Mike, I just read another thread that states you need to be using an asio driver to hear the synth sounds when playing. In fact I believe when I selectesd asio4all during the week I had no problem. The issue with asio4all is that I could not get playback to my monitors, only to my computer speakers. I have a Tascam 2x2 audio interface but I have always had a problem trying to use it as an asio device and in the past used it as an mme driver because it created all sorts of issues with realband. Everything is up to date but it will not play nice. Is there a way to select asio4all and direct playback to my monitors? I cannot do it through windows when I select asio4all.

Hi Rich
As I use a dedicated asio driver for my Akai pro audio interface I have not had that problem.
But it is my understanding that asio drivers including asio for all (that is in fact a jacket for windows drivers to make them work like asio drivers)
That they only allow one instance of use at any time and therefore can not support multiple use in different aps simultaneously.

Correct, that is why I was only using it with Realband. I need to find a way to change the playback path to my monitors.

Hi Rich,

In the ASIO Audio Drivers window, click the ASIO Driver's Control Panel button. This'll bring up the controls for ASIO4ALL, where you can choose which device you want it to use.

This is only necessary with ASIO4ALL, since it's a universal ASIO driver that works with just about any device. A "real" ASIO driver, like the one that came with your interface, would just work through the device it was made for, automatically.

Thanks
Kent

If I change the output to the Tascam I get no sound. I am also not hearing the synth sounds when I play the midi keyboard which makes it impossible to record. If I record and play it back I will here the synth sound. What options do I loose if I use this as a standalone synth, I assume I can assign a midi track in realband and record the synth to that track, As a stand alone the midi keyboard plays the synth sounds. If this is a good option I need instructions on how to set this up. I saw a video but it was for Mac only. I have spent about 20 to 25 hours on this and I am getting nowhere. I am heading out to Bible sty in a few moments so I will not be able to respond tonight. Thanks Rich

Hi Rich,

I just tested it, and it looks like MIDI Thru will only play through the Default Synth, sorry. I'm not 100% sure if it's supposed to work that way or not, but I'm reporting it as a bug now.

Sorry I didn't have an immediate fix for you. If you need help getting your ASIO driver working, feel free to give our tech support line a call tomorrow, 1-866-983-2474.

Thanks

Hi Kent
You can set midi thru to be track specific and as such it will play through whatever is connected or assigned to that track ,
in Realband’s Options / preferences / midi /midi thru / set track specific
This way if I am recording a trumpet by playing notes into a track while recording I hear a trumpet or what ever other instrument I choose on any track I hear that tracks voice ."

important:
See my full linked post earlier for details.
Mike

Hi Mike,

Right, the "Track Specific" setting applies to the MIDI channel and patch you've assigned to the track, but not the plugin.

The tip in your longer post about unchecking "Reroute MIDI playback to default DXi/VSTi Synth", and manually assigning each track to a synth is the ticket to using a specific synth applied to a track for MIDI Thru.

Thanks for that tip, I'll add that workaround to my bug report in case this comes up again.

Thanks

It was brought to my attention that maybe why I hear a piano instead of a synth sound when attempting to record is because I am monitoring the incorrect source. How would I change that if it can be done.

Mike,
After writing this I reread your posted link. Maybe I did it wrong and will try again tonight.
