I upgrades to 2009.5 from 2007. It was suggested I do a clean install which I did. I am now missing some styles from my last installation. When I open songs from before I get a message saying the style wasn't found and it substitutes another style. Some examples are Texasbl.sty and sloarpbk.sty. I went and relaoded all my real drums from CD, but that didn't do anything. I've looked through the CDs from the original purchase & don't see where they would be. Here are the disks I have:

Band in a Box 2007 Megapak
BIAB 2007 Bonus 17 Pak
BIAB 2007 Bonus 25 Pak
Two video tutoral CDs
Three Real Drums CDs
And some other CDs with specific guitar programs.

Any idea where I get the missing styles?

Thanks

If you still have 2007, reinstall as an upgrade, not a clean install. If you deleted the 2007 directory, then you are probably out of luck if you don't have the Styles disk/files. If you do have the 2007 files, copy all of the .sty and .st2 files over to 2009.5. That might work as well.
Good luck.

Hi Tony,

Did you install the new BIAB right overtop of the old in the same folder, typically, C:/bb ?

No I did a clean install. I called PG & they suggested that. Perhaps I should uninstall, reinstall 2007, then install the new one over it?

Nothing beats a good defrag and a 'restore to original'

In over a decade of using the program, I have always just installed the new version right overtop of the old version of BB, in the same folder.

At one time, I used to make a copy of the old folder under a different name, as a just in case backup, but soon found out that in all this time, BB has NEVER overwritten nor deleted anything that I had already put into the bb folder. Songs, Custom Styles, Aftermarket Styles, Folders, whatever, the only thing installing the new version of bb over the old does is add anything new to the thing.

And that is the way I recommend doing upgrades to BB. It is a great feature.

I'm surprised that anyone at pgmusic support would tell you to do the opposite. That was bogus info if they did.

Fixing things straight shouldn't be that much for you. You can try rolling back the system to a point before the install if you have that feature turned on. Then take a look inside the rolled back bb folder for the stuff that you are currently missing. If it is there, then just run the installer for the new bb and direct it to install to the exact same folder where the old bb lives.

If you have no other recourse, don't delete anything, just start installing from the oldest version you have, and work your way one at a time towards the newest version. That should do the trick.

Thanks Mac. Yes I was surprised they said it was best to do a clean install also, but that's in the past. I'll try the system restor or els start from scratch if that doesn't do it.

Tonyman, I think you know this from your original problem statement, but along the way, PG Music has often offered 'Paks" with extra features, that do not become part of the 'normal' package in future versions. These would be additional installs on the applicable CD, so you'll have to look for them manually.

Installing each new version over the old means you don't have to worry about finding and installing these add-ons (sometimes many years later), as Mac detailed. But you can certainly reconstruct everything by looking on each CD for a separate install of those add-ons.

Thanks Matt, I'll look around. Windows wouldn't let me restore so I will try that route next. I did find part of the issue is that 2007 was in C:\BB and 2009 was installed in C:\Program Files\BB. Even though I uninstalled there is still a lot in the old directory to look at.

If you use the 'What Add-On Features Do I Have' feature (not at my DAW at the moment but I think it is under 'Help'), you can see what you have and, if you have lost anything you paid for, just get in touch with PG Music directly and they will give you a link to download it again. They are very good that way and keep records of what you have bought and paid for. Of course, if you never bought it in the first place they will also tell you so!

There are 4 soloists that bug me when I check this myself but they were 'extras' that I didn't think I would need and actually never have

I always make a backup image of my hard drive (Norton Ghost) before installing anything new. That way if something goes wrong, I can get back to where I was with no problem.

I've never had a problem installing BiaB over an old copy, and I rarely have any problems with any other software, but having that disk image has saved me a couple of times in the past, so I will continue doing it that way.

I know this won't help you now, but it might in the future.

First just try copying everything that did not uninstall from the C:\Program Files\BB folder directly over to the new C:\BB folder, then open up BiaB and see what you've got at that point. You might get lucky here and get it all back!

I see an edit I make to my last comment did not take. I did find some styles in the other folder, moved them over then did a find new styles & re-build under the styles menu. Seems now I only am missing one style for a saved song, TEXASBL.STY. I wrote to PG asking them if I can get another copy. I also showed them what the program says I have installed so, with that info I should be able to get back to where I want to be.

Thanks to all who responded, I really appreciate the help!

Well, its been a long time - a couple of years or so since I've been here. But looking to make a big upgrade. My last copy of BIAB is 2004 - so looking to purchase 2009.5. I'm thinking of just purchasing the ProPack with realpak country 1 add on. I currently have BIAB Styles 1-40. If I purchase just the Propak will I lose all those styles and just have styles 1-3 plus the realtracks add on ... or will I still have access to the 40 styles I've been using all these years?

Hi,

Texasbl.sty is from Styles Set 63, and is included in MegaPAK (and higher) packages since 2008. Do you have a MegaPAK or UltraPAK disc there? Try doing a search for the style name on your computer and see if it's on your hard drive anywhere...

IF you choose to install the new BB to your C: drive, just direct the Installer to do so right overtop of the existing BB and in the same folder. You will lose nothing by doing it that way.

I've been doing it that way for more than ten years and have not lost a thing, not one song, not one style, not one setting, ever.
