I find this interesting on this website http://www.salidonapublishing.com about music in dreams? I have heard of this topic when Paul McCartney wrote the Beatles' top hit song "Yesterday". He got the music from his dream.... Interesting! Any thoughts? Happy New Year!!

I've enjoyed "full underscoring" in dreams sometimes since I was a child.
Problem is usually one of remembering what I heard long enough to get it down.
And -- my propensity to CHANGE that which I've heard as I try to transcribe it! -- Usually my changes are for the worse...
Charlie Parker and several other great musicians and songwriters have made the claim in so many words that they didn't really write nor create their masterpieces, that the "music is out there" and that they really "discover" it.
If you've ever experienced an Autistic child who can play back anything they've heard with exact precision, it will make you think about this phenomenon in most uncertain terms. At least, it does that for me.
Somehow I get the feeling that this music thing is a LOT easier to do than conventional teaching methods or conventional thought allows.
Fascinating subject that I've often devoted a lot of thought about, I think that here we find one of those situations where we don't know what it is that we don't know.
And maybe never will while in the domain of the mortal coil!

It's a very interesting thing, music in a dream. I have on more than one occasion dreamed a fully orchestrated piece of music that I had never heard in my waking state. I can remember the emotional impact and I was composing this music in my dream but the music was gone after I awoke. I sometimes think that if i could tap into the right side of my brain, I could heard and play any instrument or write any thing that floats through my head. The songs that my wife and I believe are our better work, seem to come with less effort, almost like picking a plum from a tree in a dream. The other songs a labored and are not satisfying till much later when half forgotten we bring them back and rework them with less effort but more creativity, then they work well. The kicker to all this is I know the music in my head but have yet to be able to play any instrument of any kind, total dyslexia. My wife has to read my mind and to translate non musical terms into rhythm and chords, which she has learned to do quiet well, considering the impossible task I ask of her. Any time that we create any music is when we have time outside of the noise of life, that noise kills any music that wants to come out. BTW I'm not saying that what we write is great but that it expresses what we believe and feel deeply about, it may in fact be an illusion in our minds as well. Just my POV on a very interesting and strange subject. Wyndham

Woke up many times with a song in my head, a few times they were quite extensive.. and even fewer times can I get a reasonably accurrate version down before the day takes off.
Sleeping is a great time for a relaxed mind to grab things like this..
One of my better songs, After the Storm, was in my head after dreaming about sitting on the steps of a building in Galveston with Sting after a hurricane ... I had to listen thru my Sting/Police collection to make sure I wasn't taking something of his and claiming it!
One of those few times when the dream was so vivid I can still see certain scenes from it
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Hey Guys, I am having goose skin here reading your responses. It feels eerily unnatural, ghostly, mysterious and strange to heard this stuff from you. I wonder what other musicians, songwriters and music enthusiasts saying about this topic. I do believe that other great songs and music we have out there were made from music in dreams, i.e... Mozart, Handel, etc., and even other modern composers. I googled this topic but it seems nothing comes out of search engine. By the way, the original title of the song "Yesterday" was "Scrambled Egg", and then after many thoughts and a trip to Portugal in 1965, was changed to Yesterday with the lyrics. Here's the song on YouTube. It makes my heart beat fast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsLj8blqSgQ&feature=relatedGood day!

I've never come up with an entire song in my dreams but I have often come up with "improved" chord sequences for tunes that I have been arranging.
