I have a simple midi interface. E-Mu Xmidi1x1. I can use it in several other audio programs, including BIAB but when I try to use it in RealBand, it comes up with the error message "The Input Device 'E-MU XMidi1x1' is not installed on your system. Any ideas? I am getting frustrated over something that should be very simple. As I mentioned, it works in BIAB, Cubase, and Music Studio pretty easily. Thanks

If one of the other programs that you have it selected in is still open, as in minimized and not fully shut down, it may not be willing to share the device with RB.
Also, sometimes a program will shut down but won't release the driver. Reboot and check again with only RB open.

.hmmm, wonder if its one of those 'not in same port as installed' things..
Has the physical connection been changed from one USB port to another on the computer? Just a weird thing I've seen a couple times
Tried re-installing the device? just another idea
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

Hi, Bob -
I can't get RealBand to recognize my XMIDI 2x2 (on my XP system, at least) On my Vista machine - same box, dual boot - it works great).
I get the same error message as you. It works fine in BIAB, but not RealBand (or PowerTracks, for that matter).
I would think that if BIAB can see it, then RB/PTPA should be able to.

Mac, I rebooted several times and tried it in Realband first so I know it's not a sharing issue.
John, it's interesting that you have the same issue with Win XP since that is what I am also running.
It is on a different usb port than the original installation but I have since reinstalled it on the other usb port. I will try going back to the original usb port and see if it does the same thing.
Won't have time to check that today but I will post my results.
Thanks for the ideas and assistance!

As far as I know, the device has been in the same port the whole time (I use a front-side port for my XMIDI). I can try to re-install and see if it works, but again, why does BIAB recognize it and RB/PTPA not?
Actually, let me rephrase that. RB/PTPA does recognize it, because it lists it in the list of available ports to use; however, after I select it, it then tells me that it is not available to me.
Finds and uses it fine on my Vista system, though. I wondered if it's the driver for XP (versus Vista); however, since BIAB works, then it seems that maybe RB/PTPA is reading the port differently for some reason. Maybe one of the PGMusic techies can weigh in here, as I'm pretty sure we won't be the only folks with this problem.

FYI - I attached it to the original usb and same thing. It is not being recognized by Realband.
I uninstalled it and re-installed and the same result as well. Other programs - as well as BIAB, see it but not RB.

Try this:
With RB completely shut down, locate your RealBand folder and find the file, "RB.CFG".
Move it out of the folder to the desktop. Don't delete it just yet, in case, just move it out of the RB folder.
Now start up RB.
The lack of that file at startup should make RB go through the soundcard assessment routine again, as if RB had been just installed.
See if that gets it to see the USB device.
If not, you could probably drop that file back in there in place of the newly created one. Or not.

Good suggestion Mac but it didn't fix the problem.
BTW, I have already checked for, and installed the latest driver version for the device.
Anyway we can forward this thread to support for a fix? We have already tried several things so I would hate to start it all over again.

YOU should do that, simply email to support@pgmusic.com and include the URL to this thread in the email.
Best to be concise, create a list of step-by-step to describe the problem rather than long paragraphs, be sure to include the pertinent info in entirety, such as Make, Model, Driver ver. of that device as well as your OS and computer specs, that will help them to help you.
The fact that PT sees it and RB doesn't seems to point to something internal to RB, perhaps a setting or something, for RB uses the base PT engine.
TIP: If you are using last year's ver. of RB, I don't know for a fact, but perhaps this problem *may* already be solved in RB2010! We did manage to iron out a few MIDI foibles during the beta testing, but alas, I don't have that particular MIDI unit here and I don't think that anyone else on the beta test did, but maybe...

Thanks guys...
I will forward to tech and see where we get. I have 2009.5 version but I really don't want to spend another $100 or so to upgrade everything. If they had just a cheap RB upgrade rather than a whole package, maybe....
Again, thanks for the great suggestions. I will post a solution if we get one.

I just went back to try this again (after installing from the USB hard drive I received) and have the same problem. The interesting this is when I select my XMIDI 2x2, I see the Ketron flash one time, but then RealBand tells me that the port is not available. As I've said before, it works fine in BIAB, but not RealBand (in XP - my Vista works okay). This is very frustrating.

I sent a support request a week ago and haven't heard back. I just sent a 2nd request yesterday. Hopefully, we can get an answer. I don't know how long it usually takes for them to respond.
Haven't forgotten about it, just don't have anything yet...

FWIW, because every clue can help in a situation like this, I've been using the USB connect from my M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 since the first beta release, under XP SP3. Works fine. Input and Output side.
Try the Opt. menu, Return to Factory Settings and hit button numner two there, to have the program look for and readdress all MIDI and Audio outputs as well as reset the other stuff. Might do the trick.

Hello Ric,
Strange. Can you install RealBand to a new folder like C:\rb_test and run it from there to see if you get the same error with a fresh install? You can choose to install only RealBand during the BB installation. Or if you have a PG hard drive, run the setup and choose the custom option.
Make sure to plug the interface in before starting RealBand. Let us know how that goes.

Andrew,
If I do the fresh install and it doesn't do anything, how do I uninstall the rb_test version? Or, should I uninstall the original install before attempting this? That would be a lot to do.
Thanks for the suggestions gents, I will post an update when I try it later.

Hi, Andrew -
I'll give it a try as well (to re-install), but I don't think that's the problem, because it also happens in RB 2009.5 and PTPA 12. BIAB works fine with the XMIDI, however.
The same XMIDI interface using Vista drivers (obviously under Vista) on the same machine (it's a dual boot between XP and Vista) works fine with PTPA and RB, as well as BIAB. It's just under XP that it doesn't work. My other computer has the XMIDI 1x1 and it has the same problem. Unfortunately, I can't test Vista on it, only XP.
Again, when I select the XMIDI (to which my Ketron is connected), I see some activity on the Ketron, because the activity light blinks, but then RB tells me the port is not available (however, it was on the list of available ports). RB/PTPA is obviously checking the port differently than BIAB does.
