Hi, Quote:
If I do the fresh install and it doesn't do anything, how do I uninstall the rb_test version?....
You don't need to uninstall, just install to a different folder, and if it doesn't work you can delete the new folder or whatever.
One thing that's helped in the past on XP for similar types of problem (not this specific problem though) is to:
1- uninstall the driver for the interface.
2- go to start | run and type regedit to open the registry editor. You could first consider making a backup of the registry, and be very careful, since you can mess up your computer by doing the wrong stuff.
3- navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ WindowsNT\ CurrentVersion\ Drivers32
4- look for the entries called "midi", "midi1", "midi2", "midi3" etc. (ignore the rest).
5- delete any duplicate ones (if any) and look for ones that possibly refer to an older device that you no longer have installed on your computer, delete those.
6- reboot, and reinstall the drivers for your interface.
7-delete realband.ini and .cfg (or use fresh install) before running RealBand.

Hi, Andrew -
Before I delete, I thought I would post. Here's what my REGEDIT settings look like:
midi - REG_SZ - wdmaud.drv midi1 - REG_SZ - C:\PROGRA~1\DIRECT~1\adapvst2.dll <-- this is from Directixer midi2 - REG_SZ - myokent.dll <-- obviously MIDI yoke midi3 - REG_SZ - wdmaud.drv midi4 - REG_SZ - wdmaud.drv midimapper - REG_SZ - midimap.dll

I'm using XP and it works here with hardware synths, including the SD-2, among others. USB or Soundcard MIDI inputs and outputs.
Try this, it may clear the problem:
No matter what you really intend to use for MIDI output, hit the Prefs and select the Use DXi button, invoke something DXi like the VSC for the default synth. Play any MIDI file for a few bars to ascertain that the DXi synth is working, then close down RB.
Reopen RB and revisit the default MIDI settings, change 'em back to the USB port and see if it works.
If it does, it will likely work that way forever.

I've tried the suggestions here and nothing so far has worked.
My X-Fi Gamer card works fine (SB X-Fi Synth A and SB X-Fi Synth B), VSC DXi works fine, Forte DXi works fine. So, I can get sound from various sources with RB (and PTPA) under XP, just not from the XMIDI USB interface (to which the Ketron is connected).
I also went through and loaded pretty much every other MIDI application I have on my computer - WinAmp, Jammer Pro, One Man Band, Jazz MIDI Sequencer, GNMIDI, MIDI OX, and various utilities, as well as Band-In-A-Box - and they ALL work fine with the XMIDI 2x2 connected to my Ketron SD2. So, it seems that there has to be something wrong with how PTPA 12 and RB10 is reading/interpreting/whatever the port. BIAB has no problem with it; why do the sister programs?
Again, very frustrating.

"Drivers, Drivers, Drivers..."
There must be a bug somewhere. Likely PT/RB bug.
See if there have been some updated drivers for that thing on the mfr's website, might effect a cure and worth the shot.

I have already loaded the latest drivers (actually, it was the first thing I tried). I am giving up on it because I got an email from PG tech support that said they are having a lot of problems with the Emu midi. Looks like a bug with RB. Until they come up with some sort of patch, this will not get resolved. I have tried every trick I can think of and have spent a good 15 hours on this problem already.

Here is the email from tech:
"A lot of customers have trouble using these E-MU interfaces with our software, so I'd say there's some kind of compatibility issue. If we figure out why they won't work together, we'll put the fix in an update patch. In the meantime, I'd probably think about getting a different interface, as I don't really know when or if the problem will be resolved.
Thank you Kent PG Music Inc"
Does anyone have a recommendation for a "cheap" midi interface that is compatible? The Emu was about $30. I would hate to buy another one to find out it isn't compatible.

Hey Fianoman, I hear ya! I've got both - the 2x2 and the 1x1.
I've heard everything here, but I still don't get it that BIAB (and everything else) works fine, but RB/PTPA doesn't. It also works fine with Vista in RB/PTPA. Go figure. At least I can boot into Vista to make it work, but it would be nice to work in both environments.
If you get something else, let me know how it works for you.

I flound olut the hard way that I cannot install my M-Audio DuoSport or the M-Audio UnoSport MIDI USB devices at the same time as my E-MU 1616M.
Turns out they share some critical files down deep in the system somewhere and you can't have both installed at the same time. Result for me was that I could use neither. Even when only one of the two devices was actually connected and running. The driver software for the E-MU is where I place the blame.
I think E-MU has problems with their drivers on their products.
Wonderful sounding soundcard, difficult to keep it up and running...

Mac, do you recommend the M-Audio MIDISport 2x2 or 1x1 or Uno - I really need the 2x2 so I can hook my keyboard and my Ketron up? I don't have a problem shelling out the $90 as long as it works. I went with the E-Mu XMIDI at the time, because the M-Audio did not have Vista drivers, and my new computer was Vista. But it's dual boot, so I need it to work in both XP Pro and Vista.

Actually, these days I much prefer "class compliant" USB to MIDI converters.
These are the ones that do not require us to load any proprietary drivers at all, they are plug 'n play with Winders.
On my systems, so far, they work fine and there's less driver overhead clutter or something else for me to do in order to get them to work on the different machines here.
The Class Compliant USB stuff seems to be, generally speaking, a bit less expensive, too. Brand name hasn't been all that important to me, matter of fact, the two I have are different and I don't even remember the rather unknown brands on 'em. Likely made in China or the like, they work now and I consider 'em to be disposable/replaceable at those prices should anything ever fail.

The website says that it is Class Compliant, that's all I would be able to tell you about it, not having bought nor used one from there.
You know, the pgmusic website sells the Ta Horng one, you have to believe they would not sell one that hasn't been proven to work with their products.
Also be sure to check if the one you are looking at is stated to work with your particular Windows OS, too...

E-MU should have new drivers for the 1x1 and 2x2 pretty soon - hopefully this will solve the problem.
