It came in the mail today, unbelievably fast! I was expecting 2 weeks not 2 days. Yahooo
I told my family I'll wait for Christmas to open it up but they showed mercy and compassion and let me open it up early. God I luv them.

Now, the fun begins.

I dont have a clue what to do. I was listening to the jukebox for a while but got anxious for play time and Im more clueless now.

First off, do I need a sound card?
I have an intergrated sound card but I have no midi capabilities or virtual synth? (is that what its called?) on my comp. Do I need to get one? Are there any free?

Im on page 10 in the manual, and judging by the looks of how thick it is, I'm going to be here typing alot. lol

Thanks in advance.

What O/S are you using. If it's not a 64 bit one, go to Midi Setup and check the wee box that says Dxi. Then select the VSC Dxi. Now you have Midi. Simple.

Next, I gave you instructions to download some files. But there are the fakebooks in the distribution try some of the Irish tunes etc.

Load those up and give them a whirl.

I checked the box and it brought me to this window that wants to select the vst plugin. then it wants a .dll in the dx settings folder but its empty.

Did I miss something?

*If* you installed the VSC DXi, there is definitely a DXi synthesizer somewhere - you just need to locate it. For some reason the VSC.dll is located here at -> Programs\Steinberg\VstPlugins\. Check that directory out. If you're out of luck here, perform a standard file search over your C-drive.

Ima moron.

In my haste I just went straight to the exe. I didnt install from the drive. DOH

Without the vsc dxi it sounds like crap and I was thinking, OMG, I got a faulty drive.

Sorry for the totally dumb as useless questions. Im going back to the manual now, maybe oneday I'll learn to use this thing. If I dont rush it, that is.

Cheers!

If you are running straight from the delivered hard drive, then you likely haven't run any installers yet.

There are several small files that must be installed to the C drive in order to use them and the VSC DXi MIDI synth is one of them.

There is a "readmefirst" file on the USB drive.

You should read it first.

It should say this or something pretty close to this:

Quote:

Option #1 - Run Band-in-a-Box directly from the USB drive only (20 MB disk space required)
_____________________________________

Double-click on the Band-in-a-Box Setup.exe file and choose Option 1. This will install and register the PG Music notation fonts, VSC-DXi synth, VSC-VST synth, and PG Music DirectX audio plugins on your computer, but will not install Band-in-a-Box, RealBand, RealTracks, or RealDrums on your computer's internal hard drive. You can use the programs as they are, pre-installed on the USB drive. There are shortcuts to open the program in the PGMusic folder.

If you have Windows Vista, you may need to disable User Account control to run the programs properly.

Note that the shortcuts (program launchers) in the PGMusic folder will not work if you move them to a different location (for example to your computer desktop). You could create your own desktop or start menu shortcuts to open Band-in-a-Box, but they will only work if the drive letter on your computer remains the same (i.e. if G:\UltraPlusPAK doesn't change to I:\UltraPlusPAK).

Note: If you install updates or add-ons for Band-in-a-Box or RealBand in the future, the update installers won't be able to locate the bb folder automatically. So if you install an update, make sure to choose the correct destination folder (where the program executable is located - e.g. G:\PGMusic\Programs\bb or G:\PGMusic\Programs\RealBand

Yeah, thanks Mac. Its running pretty sweet now. Im having fun now that Ive figured out how to add real track instruments to my mix.

I have a 12 string gently plaing some chords and I swear, its one of the most beautiful things Ive ever heard. Until I mess it up and add a fm7. lol

Ive noticed though, there is a realband exe on here. I always thought the realband name meant the real instruments in BIAB. What is it for?

That's a separate program. Baby steps buddy. You should look on the hard drive and find a folder called Folksongs the subfolders, Irish, Scottish, English etc... go there and choose a song.

And then do what I said, go to Allanah's site by google Allanah band in a box and find the A folder download it , unzip it, and check the folder for a song you know. Have fun with that, it's going to keep you up nights.
