If you are running straight from the delivered hard drive, then you likely haven't run any installers yet.

There are several small files that must be installed to the C drive in order to use them and the VSC DXi MIDI synth is one of them.

There is a "readmefirst" file on the USB drive.

You should read it first.

It should say this or something pretty close to this:

Quote:

Option #1 - Run Band-in-a-Box directly from the USB drive only (20 MB disk space required)
_____________________________________

Double-click on the Band-in-a-Box Setup.exe file and choose Option 1. This will install and register the PG Music notation fonts, VSC-DXi synth, VSC-VST synth, and PG Music DirectX audio plugins on your computer, but will not install Band-in-a-Box, RealBand, RealTracks, or RealDrums on your computer's internal hard drive. You can use the programs as they are, pre-installed on the USB drive. There are shortcuts to open the program in the PGMusic folder.

If you have Windows Vista, you may need to disable User Account control to run the programs properly.

Note that the shortcuts (program launchers) in the PGMusic folder will not work if you move them to a different location (for example to your computer desktop). You could create your own desktop or start menu shortcuts to open Band-in-a-Box, but they will only work if the drive letter on your computer remains the same (i.e. if G:\UltraPlusPAK doesn't change to I:\UltraPlusPAK).

Note: If you install updates or add-ons for Band-in-a-Box or RealBand in the future, the update installers won't be able to locate the bb folder automatically. So if you install an update, make sure to choose the correct destination folder (where the program executable is located - e.g. G:\PGMusic\Programs\bb or G:\PGMusic\Programs\RealBand
