My friend who's in FL and unfortunately I'm in NC just bought a new lappy. HP with Win7/64bit. He also just got the new 2010. He's a seasoned BIAB user. The install went OK but he keeps getting access violations when he hits play.

I've heard about two instances where people needed to reboot the machine after install to not get error message.

If that doesn't do the trick, tell him to try installing the Forte demo and then reboot the puter, see if it doesn't work now that it has one DXi in there somewhere.

Just a W.A.S.G. based on one other situation overheard.

I had him do a return to FS then reboot the other day. The problem persists. Your saying install the Forte but leave the boxes unchecked? He has a Ketron so doesn't want to use any DXi but maybe the prog needs one? I also just send him info on disabling the UAC. I'm at a little loss here cause I don't have Vista or Win7.

He's getting repeated access violations when going to the song picker and double clicking on a song. It opens and then the error.

Are you sure he didn't install the Dxi by mistake. That cause me no end of grief. I though leaving it would be no biggie, but I had to un-install it. That stopped most of the problems.

I also had to install everything on the system, the way Vista 64 was writing to the external hard drive and the way XP did it on my laptop caused me no end of grief too.

I still get an access violation every time I shut down biab in Vista 64 without the external drive there, I've no idea why, but I just click close the program.

You know I bet he did. I bet he just told the installer to install everything including the DXi.

Does the problem happen when opening a song other ways (than the song picker)?
He should make sure he's running in admin mode as well.
He can try updating to 291 http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm#291

On VISTA it's a must. VISTA is really a very touchy OS!

Mike

Another thought, I believe he can run the program under XP compatibility mode, if all fails.

Then again, I don't have BIAB running under VISTA.

He's still having issues.
How do you run it under an admin account? If he's the only user I would assume it is an admin account or does he have to right click on the bbw.exe and choose run as admin.

Well, if his account is the only account on the computer, it should be an Administrator account, so he would be running in Admin. To check that, go to Control Panel, Users, and Accounts and see if his an Administrator account.

I've been running BIAB on my HP laptop with Win 7 64 Bit RC, not the gold version, and I have 2009.5 on there. I don't have 2010 yet, but I've had no issues.

I AM having crashes on Vista 64 with 2010 when I close the program.

Have him uninstall the program, make sure his account is an Administrator account, and then reinstall the program.

To make sure of the Admin I had him un hide the actual "Administrator" account. Now when he boots up he has "Dave" & "Administrator" . Even using the "administrator" account is causing the access violations when opening songs. I had him also reinstall.

Here, under win7 64bit, RB crashed and Win7 asked if I wanted to try to fix it by running in compatability mode
I tried that and it worked great. Has he tried running in compat mode?

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

He's hired someone to come to his house and get it going. He will show them your suggestion. To hard for me to diagnose an OS I've never worked with from 800 miles away.

John if that does not work you can both download a program called crossloop, which will allow you to log on to his screen and take control of his mouse and do some adjustments to the system.

Well the plot sort of thickens. The computer is being sent to me so folks be prepared. I'll be picking brains big time.
A little clue though. He also had a desktop machine built for him that has XP on it an he's having the same issues. I suspect either corrupt files on the PG hard drive or corrupt song files. These items will be easy to test. I'll see if my songs play in his computer and if his songs play in mine.
Sorry that my problems when I have them turn out to be complex and long winded.
