Purchased a mini dell with the little bittie screen (9 inch) with the Atom processor for the express purpose of running my BIAB and Real Tracks with it. Speakers where horrible so hooked it up to a cheap set of desk top speakers I wasn't using. Man does, this thing rock!!!! Listening to juke box going through the old style demos. Man, I never realized there where so many good backups on those old styles. I'm going to be gettin my moneys worth out of this with just the music I get to listen to well working on other stuff on the computer.

Thanks for the info -- I'm thinking there is probably a netbook in my future. One question, Earl: You mention your "little bittie screen" (9 inch). How are you finding working with BIAB on that display, vs whatever you were using before? I ask, because netbook screens keep getting bigger -- I'm considering a netbook with a 10.1 or 10.2 display, and there are some with 11.6 that I could pick up for maybe $75 to $100 more than you paid (though a screen that's too large seems to defeat the purpose of a netbook). Is your smaller screen at all a disadvantage in working with BIAB's interface?

I sit my netbook on the accousic piano and jazz through the little Bose outfit in my living room.
Then move to the HP monster downstairs on the Bose L1, and rock the whole block.
Either way it works great.
I Jammed for 2 hours to White Christmas doing jazz variations on the accoustic and the acer wee computer this morning..had a whack of fun. Changed styles about 10 times.
You could sell this door to door like the fuller brush man.!

But could you tell us more about the Bose L1. Never heard one in person.
Is it worth the price?

Yes. I can say that because I'm the guy who convinced John C. to give 'em a try, right here on these forums.
I sold my Bose L-1 system and bought two of the newer Bose Compacts. Love 'em. And so do the club owners and audience.
The newer Bose Compact is lighter in weight, easier to pack in and out and as far as I'm concerned, does the same job as the big one plus its subwoofer did for me and then some. I run two, so BiaB and my keyboard can be in stereo. Haven't found a venue too big for it yet, but then I don't play huge places anyway.
Just don't ry to use 'em for studio recording monitors. They make almost any mix sound good and that won't translate to other people's speaker systems well. They weren't designed to be studio monitors, but already some folks have blasted me because I recommended them for doing live gigs in clubs -- and they tried to use 'em on mixing at home as well. Go figure.

Don't know about using them as monitors, but I sit in front of it and use it to jam along with. The singing is getting better, something I never practiced.
The L1 is heavy, and takes 2 trips, plus 1 for the keyboard and stand, so 3 trips, but it sets up in less than 5 minutes, all of it.
The smaller unit, well I never thought of getting 2, durn. I do like the toneport module. Check the Bose USA site for details, and customer reviews.

As to the screen size and working with BIAB. I am next to blind so this was a big question for me. Fact is it is hard for me to use it on line and with the forum. As to BIAB the large letters in the chord pane are very easy to see and work with. Also the big lyrics window is large enough for me to use in real time. For what I do and the way I have used BIAB in the past and intend to use it in the future I really don't think the screen size will be a big problem. I do think I would want to use it on a larger screen if I was in a studio enviourment.

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing.
