Well, you see, I now have this problem. I have a very large desk containing my computer and speakers and sound controls. The desk faces out into the office/studio area. I can't have the desk facing the wall because the wall space if filled with bookcases and CD racks. So, when I am practicing using RealStyles, I have to start the BB tune I am practicing, walk around the desk to my stool, sit down, pick up my trombone from the stand and look at the music. Previously I was able to do all of this quite easily and be ready to play when my BB rhythm section started to play. Now I only get to the end of the desk and the rhythm guys have already started to play.

I suppose I will have to write 8 bar intros to all the tunes. Grumble, grumble. Or how about we put a delay button on the wish list?

Seriously guys, the generation time is unbelievably fast. Well done!

Well, Graham, if you really want it the old way, that option is actually there. Just go into the RealTracks settings and uncheck the box that says "Speed up generation of RealTracks". I'm sure they were thinking about your desk situation when they put that option there.

You could get a small midi keyboard to doodle on and set the thing to not start until it gets a note. Done for less than 100 bucks I bet, just a really small unit with a usb hookup and no sounds.

Anyways if I throw some verbal 'barb' at you it's because in brass band the bones are behind the baris and I just have to hassle them. It's my job.

Such problems we users come up with.

Graham, aren't you the one who used to have the signature, "Don't listen to the trombones, it will only encourage them."?

The Jukebox window has a place to set a delay between songs, in seconds...

I'm not smart enough to make that up. I really thought it was Graham's former signature. But maybe it was for some other witty trombonist.

Perhaps from somewhere like this?

Yep. But someone here used it.

Actually, I think the quote is slightly incorrect. It should be, "Never look at the trombones, it only encourages them." which is credited to Richard Strauss.

And Matt is correct in saying that someone did use it on this forum, but it was not me. Even more people have used it on The Trombone Forum where I am often to be found when wasting valuable practice time.

I just flew back into Brisbane today after attending the Australian Jazz Convention in Melbourne. I had an absolute ball playing hot jazz and renewing acquaintances with a lot of traditional jazz trombone players and others, including my Canadian cornet playing mate Jim Reed who comes over every year. I think the average age of the convention attendees was around 65, which is kinda sad. Also sad is the fact that there was a long list of jazz musicians we lost during 2009. However, trombone players seem to be surviving better than most. We definitely need some young blood.

Thanks for the clarification, Graham.

I feel like a youngster reading some of the posts on the Trumpet Herald forum, even though I've played since 1960. I played a concert with Doc Cheatham not long before he passed away, and was inspired to learn trumpet players can still sound that good at 90+.

Hey Graham,

Check this out, I think it's just what the doctor ordered>

Yes, Ed is correct. The Frontier Design Tranzport works beautifully in BIAB, with native support built in.

The problem is finding one. If PG Music still stocks them, buy it now. The unit is discontinued, and Frontier Design has not mentioned any plans for a replacement (even though they just updated their other fine product, the AlphaTrack, which is not wireless). I'm guessing they are waiting for the shakeup of the wireless spectrum to settle down.

One can also order up a programmable USB footswitch and use it to start the program by programming it to do the keyboard shortcut for Play. If you purchase the dual foot switch, you can program the other pedal for any other function that has a keyboard shortcut, too.

I use a Delcom in live performance sometimes:

Yep I also got the frontier transport, works fine! I checked in Australia, my first google already found 3 adresses:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Frontier-Tranzpor...=item3ef908414c

http://www.onlinemusicstore.com.au/index.php?page=showProduct&id=FDTRANZPORT

http://www.velvetsystems.com/Frontier.Design.TRANZPORT.controller.cfm

In Europe I also found them, so there must be still a chance to get one.

But then again a wireless mouse and/or keyboard is much cheaper and works fine too!

I'll be back...

Just a quick reminder of a tip I discovered on the Tranzport:

If you press the Tranzport Play button, it causes BIAB to regenerate Real Drums and Real Tracks, which can take a few seconds if the song is not frozen.

I found out you can use Shift+Play to issue a Replay command.

This was undocumented, so I sent it to Frontier. They added a notice on the user forum.
