Gary,

I cannot thank you enough for the amount of time and immense effort you put forward on my account. I really feel better about what I'm doing now.

I'm sure we'll cross paths again once I get all this stuff connected!

Happy New Year,

Greg in Orlando

On the software side check out KVR for free anything you like. Its also good to get hold of the magazines which have a CD with free stuff and lots of synths etc on them. If you want to compose, then at some point you will need a sequencer - there are free ones about - try KVR again. I think Real Band is a sequencer if you have this, I have not checked this out yet as I am new to BIAB.

Your Piano skills will be real handy.

Greg,
That is what this forum is all about, helping others.

When you get all your stuff, we'll be there to help you get it sorted out, too.

And once YOU get some things sorted, we fully expect you to hang around and pitch in to help others that don't know what you've learned!

That's the spirit of this forum.

Zero, it's ok to send a noob to KVR just for general knowledge but don't recommend all those freebie synths for Biab. Remember Biab only has one midi output port so all the sounds have to come from whatever synth you choose to use. If a freebie synth is a cool sounding electric piano emulator, then every track in Biab is going to sound like a ep, the drums, guitars, everything. That's why Gary's been talking about what synth is he going to use and is recommending that Cakewalk bundle because it includes the TTS-1. That's a decent sounding multitimbral GM synth that has all the sounds in it.
Really pay attention to what Gary is saying, he's one our resident experts and explains things very well.

Hi,

In a nutshell, you can spend a little bit of money and have good sounds ($35 for Cakewalk Music Creator which does have the TTS-1 softsynth) If you get Sonar, you get the whole bundle, but it is much more expensive.

If you want to keep it outboard, Ketron has the SD2, which has gotten rave reviews here.

OR, if you want great sounds that are still GM compatible and respond to BIAB program change commands, check out the V one from VIR2
http://www.vir2.com/4DCGI/vir2/products/vione/index.html?1198

And if you have deep pockets, you can start getting into the Kontakt realm of sample libraries, although be advised that these will be needed to load for EACH BIAB song, time consuming at best.

In this case, Ed, the 'deep pockets' is the farthest thing from where we are now. We're dealing with gift cards at the moment. Deep Pockets comes after the Platinum album.

Well, in my case, that will happen once hospitals start spending money again on capital equipment. And that won't come back around in full swing again until the hospital administrators understand the full impact of the pending health care legislation. If the tax on medical devices stays in the legislation, my career is over...

But I do have a backup plan! I wrote a book, and I'm trying to get it published. Maybe THAT will be my "platinum album."

Thanks again for everyone's help.

Based on a recommendation on the forums I purchased this keyboard about a year ago to replace an old Yamaha. It has great sounds especially the sax. Has a USB port for midi connections. Here is a link to it at amazon so you can use your gift cards.

Just got the M-Audio KeyRig 49 hooked up. BIAB 2006 and my Vista computer worked with it right away!

Film at 11!

Hi Guys,

I have Cakewalk Music Creator 5 installed now, with the Roland TTS-1. How do I configure BIAB to use that soft synth?

Thanks,

Greg

Hello Greg,

In the MIDI Driver Setup, check the 'use dxi synth' box (or press the DXi Synth Settings button if it's already checked). In the DirectX window, choose the TTS-1 in the top pull-down box.
