This is a known problem and it is easily fixed.
Inside BiaB, under the Options menu, select, "MIDI/Audio..." and when that window opens, check "Use DXi" and load the VSC DXi or the Forte MIDI synth. Regardless of whatever MIDI synth you want to use later.
Load any demo song from the songpicker and hit play.
Close BiaB down.
Restart BiaB and this time you can go back to that window and uncheck "Use DXi" and go back to using whatever MIDI synth you were before and everything should load and run properly from there on out.
So far, this has worked for quite a few folks. Evidently something must be toggled once by the DXi synth and then all is okay forever.
