Wow,

Excitement fading but I am sure will return after I get the latest issue resolved. 2010 installed with 292 build and all worked fine on gig one day ago, that was then. Now one day later after doing a few tweaks on a couple of tunes I shut the computer down. Upon rebooting the last song saved comes up (as per settings) but when I try to open another file/tune BIAB simply quits.

I tried the return to factory settings, reinstalled BIAB 2010 and 292 patch but the problem still exist. Previous played song loads with reboot but any attempt to save it, or open another tune crashes the program instantly. Any advice will be appreiciated before I can try support after the holidays. Hopefully I can get back up and running before a gig on the 8th of this month.

Thanks,

Try locating any other song, like a pgmusic demo song, in the bb folder or a subfolder and start BB by doubleclicking on that songfile.

Don't know, but that's a hunch.

Mac, he could also delete the "Interface.bbw" file if all else fails, correct? Not sure if that's been changed as an option in 2010.

I did what you said Mac (double clicked on a file in one of my folders) and instead of 210 BIAB opening 2009.5 opened and played the song. It also let me save and reopen any other file I tried. I guess my problem is that inbetween booting 2010 and trying to save or open 2010 is not recognized . . . does that make sence?

Thanks for the help,

The same thing happened to me. After two days of access error messages and reloading
2010 over the top of 9.5 I finally installed 2010 in a separate folder. I have been running error free for the last week.

Ed -- That is exactly what Return to Factory Settings button does.

Several versions back or so I asked Peter if he could automate the deletion of that intrface.bbw file because I was having to recommend that procedure so much on this forum. So he put that menu option together for us. After a version or so with it, he also implemented the feature that allows us to take snapshot of the intrface.bbw file and save that separately, allowing us to be able to Return to Our Last Known Working Settings rather than starting over with all factory default settings, a real treat IMO.

So there is no difference in doing it "manually" or using the Options menu button, other than using the button certainly streamlines the whole procedure, you don't have to close down BB first, etc.

intrface.bbw is a "volatile" file in the sense that BB must read it when opening and must write to it when closing. If something happens to prevent a tidy shutdown of BB, such as a freeze, crash or other foible with the program, causing bb to stop running before the Write takes place, or worse yet, in the middle of the Write, the file can easily become corrupted.

Well here is what I did:

#1. I uninstalled every previous version and/or file from BIAB from the hard drive.
#2. Reinstalled 2010 and the 292 patch
#3. I am happy to report that all is working (fingers crossed) well as I type this update. I have put it through many live performance simulations and we are good to go as of this memo.

So if any of you have a similar issue I reccomend taking the same actions before shooting yourself.

Other than my BIAB song files loosing the BIAB familiar icon (they just look like MS blue and white now) all is well. They open and save, as they should at this point in time.

Now to get that old BIAB confidence back that when I have an audience staring me down and I click play it will “actually play again”. That will take sometime, as I must admit that the old live performance confidence I had with BIAB is no more after recent events. But I am keeping the faith, just as strong as it was in the past.

Happy New Year!

To get 'em back, inside BiaB, go to File -> File Utilities -> Associate File types...

Danny:
Congratulations! I wonder how I would do the same steps since I am just running off the external harddrive? I may try reinstalling the original 2010 version on the hard drive, then updating to 292 again?

By the way...happy new year everyone!

You could try installing to an internal hard drive, sure, but if you are thinking about trying to run the installer on the same USB drive that it is on, I don't think that's a good idea at all.

Saxmarc,

As per Mac's notation above I have reinstalled on an external 500 gig hardrive that I use for BIAB alone, not the USB Hardrive from PG Music. Let me know how it works out for you.

Good Luck,

Mac and Danny:
Thank you for the information. Maybe I should try getting another external hard drive to put it on--I guess I could copy it over and install from there.

Thanks!

SaxMarx,

Not saying that it will be the answer to your issues, in fact I almost know it won't as while I do not have the crashes anymore (fingers crossed) I still have an access file issue every now and then. However, if I unfreeze the file re-save it, then re-open it again it plays just fine.

But re: the external hardrive, heck I think I paid 75.00 or so for the 500 gig so either way you can't go wrong as if you don't already you will need the space soon.

I'm pulling for you man!

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
