Hi, does anybody know if BiaB2010 works with Sibelius 6 in plug-in mode? Or at least could BiaB copy a track from BiaB to the clipboard and then paste it into Sibelius?

It works jsut fine here in Sibelius 5, but remember that Sibelius is a MIDI only situation. Don't expect it to be able to accept songs with RealTracks in them as .wav or other audio.

You can, however drag and drop the accompanied RealTrack notation, which is MIDI, but you would have to be able to stri \p out the Volume CC7 imbedded at the beginning in order to be able to set it such that the part could be heard.

It may be easier all around to use the File -> Make a Standard MIDI File command and then open that MIDI file in Sibelius without the D&D feature, which was really designed with a digital audio/MIDI sequencing or recording software in mind and not a notation suite.

That would indeed be really stupid ...

1. You mean you drag and drop a track from the BiaB window onto a staff in the Sibelius window and then the notes from the dragged track appear on this staff?
2. Does this work only from the BiaB Notation window or from other BiaB windows as well?
3. Is it possible to drag and drop only the whole track, or selected parts of a track as well?

Why wouldn't BiaB do this automatically instead?

I hate these multi-step procedures for simple actions. I like pressing a keyboard-shortcut or simply drag and drop a selection to achieve a data-transfer. This is the way computers should work ...

I find that BiaB and Sibelius complement each other very well: BiaB has very limited notation features and superb composition features, while Sibelius has excellent notation features and poor composition features. In fact, I would be happy if BiaB could be even more integrated into Sibelius ...

Not really. Stick around. Lots of folks don't understand the ins and outs of the computer and audio vs MIDI files. That's a common happening on forums such as these. "Call no man fool" it sez in the Proverbs...

I tried it once during the beta testing and got results. I'll have to revisit the thing to get you a step-by-step if you need it, but then, you're not stupid like those other folks, right? <g>

You drag from the TRACK NAMES. Combo, for all of them, or the separate track.

Currently, we have to drag the entire track. Then use the target software for any editing. One workaround is to change the length of the BiaB song, though. Save small snippets as separate songs under a new name.

Because the RealTracks notation is done in MIDI, but we don't want the MIDI synth to be playing back alongside of the RealTrack as the song plays. So Peter has the program insert a CC7 volume command of zero at the beginning of notated RealTracks. Not all RealTracks support notation at this time, but of the ones that do, you can indeed import the notes as MIDI data to an external program.

Well, I am agreed with that, the computer should always make our workflow easier. But reality is another situation, I'm afraid. At that point, I value getting the work done and out the door and if that is what it takes at this point in time to realize that value, it is what I have to do. I always hit the BB Wishlist about items such as this one, though. Over the years, I have lost count of the number of suggestions that I alone have put there that have become additions to the BiaB program. And then there are the great suggestions of many others that have made it to fruition, also. If anything, BB is a labor of love and always a work in progress.

Ditto.

Being a crossgrade from Finale several years ago now, I thought I'd miss the Finale/BiaB collaboration with the BiaB MIDI Harmony Engine, something I use to rapidly sketch out vocal parts, choirs, sax and horn sections, etc. for the SATB (or "BATS" as I like to call 'em) -- but again, the workaround is simple enough, exporting the Harmonies as MIDI and importing into Sibelius for edits and such works fine.

Beats hell out of a pencil!

(Yeah, I'm that old. When I started scoring, it was pencil and staff and my first work was, of course, as a copyist... )

Maybe you misunderstood me. I haven't called anybody a fool, just made a a judgement about the procedure.

That would be really great. I've just ordered the Everything 160 GB harddisk (BTW, is it a 2.5"?) and cannot wait to get it on my hands. Unfortunately the download doesn't work, maybe the servers are overloaded these days ... ;-)

Please, don't make this kind of statements ...

It would be fantastic being able to select 4 or 8 bars in the BiaB Notation window, copy them to the clipboard and then paste them into a Sibelius track on a desired position! AFAIK Sibelius uses its own clipboard which is not connected to the Windows system clipboard. So BiaB should try to support the Sibelius clipboard. (Until now I was unsuccessful in persuading the Sibelius people to support the Windows clipboard).

This seems to be a misunderstanding. I meant BiaB should remove the CC7 volume command (from the data passed to the target program) when the user drops the track.

I agree with this. BiaB is a great program.

I have to add that I hate workarounds ...

When I started studying music seriously I too had to use the pencil. My first "hot" contact was a tower with electronic music gear inside and an Atari monitor on the top - it was love at the first sight ... ;-)
