Adam Neely created an excellent video regarding the science of musical tastes. Very fascinating how much brain chemistry is actually involved with this!

Ok, I'm going to have to watch this later..... My tastes have changed drastically since I was 14.

So have mine! I know the thumb nail is click-baity, however I highly suggest watching it. He showcases some interesting insights regarding the psychology on musical preferences

I have seen this before.

Not to be patronizing, but BIAB has helped me expand my musical tastes well beyond classical, jazz, rock and the type of pop I listened to most of the time.

Being able to get active and involved with hip hop, rap, trance, electronica, Gypsy and on and on gives me a greater appreciation for all genres, and I am having a blast trying on new genres--and a lot of fun checking out new stuff in the world with more respect, because I can tinker with it too.

So, I guess the cure for all brain disorders and prematurely cemented neurophysiology is for everyone in the world to buy Band in a Box.

It is the Future of the Human Race.

Joe? Thoughts???

Is that crazy talk, or am I a genius before my time??

Like David, I also have found that BIAB has pushed my music capabilities into territories I probably would never have tried.

My music taste keeps on returning to the Tin Pan Alley era of music (1930s and 40s specifically). This is my home base.

I think there is a lot of truth in that video for the average listener of music, I see it all the time with people my age that are stuck on listening to the music of their youth.

I think as musicians we have "bigger ears" than the average listener and are more open to listening to new things.

But that's just my opinion, and I could be wrong eek

Like David BiaB has expanded my playing capabilities. Without BiaB I might not even be playing today but now I am at least attempting to play in many different genres.

Back in my day the only time we started panic buying was when the bartender shouted "last call"!

I mostly agree with this statement. I say mostly as I know a few old school country musicians whom refuse to listen or play anything else. I'll bet there are a number of jazz, rock, or classical musicians in the same boat. I think that some of that is a good thing.

Why you ask? Because in the 60's one could hear all genres of music on the radio. Both AM and FM played various genres. But now as corporate music companies have taken over the air waves all you hear is what can make them money. I can hear the same DJs and songs in virtually every big city I have been near in my travels. YMMV

This video was far more interesting than I would have guessed from the click-baity title. Really interesting breakdown here - some points I don't totally agree with, or at the least have a similar experience with - but still interesting smile

I saw this video before ( seems to have been taken down now ), and I didn't really agree with it then. But it was an interesting watch.
