I've just received and installed BIAB 2010 and I'm getting some strange behaviour with the menus.

When I first open a menu (e.g. click on File) the menu opens but is translucent. If I then move onto the menu it goes solid. If I then make a selection from the menu the blue hi-lighted bit of the menu remains visible even after making the selection.

From then on menus work correctly, but I have a blue hi-light stuck on my display. It remains even after closing BIAB and it is floating above all other windows.

I can get rid of the hi-light by making a change to the display settings (e.g. changing the colour depth to 16 bit & back to 32)

Once I have done this though, the BIAB menus revert to the translucent mode until I make another selection and get another blue box.

I'm running under Windows XP SP3

Any Ideas

G'day Andy,
reckon I'd be looking fo a video driver update.

Yes, that does sound like it may be a video driver problem.

It may also be due to onboard video that shares physical ram and not enough ram in the machine to support everything going on, too.

Hi Andy,

This is unusual behaviour. It sounds like your graphics card is having fight with something. Some questions to clarify things...
  • If you used the USB installation, did you read the Readme First File.rtf on the USB drive before installing and follow the steps outlined (this is a very important procedure)?
  • Again, if you purchased the USB drive, what installation did you choose from the options given?
  • If you go to Opt. >> Midi/Audio Driver Setup, what is selected for: (a) Soundcard (up the top right); (b) Audio Settings (a button down the bottom right)?

If you absolutely sure that you installed everything correctly, the first thing I'd try is Return to factory settings (the bottom option when you are given a choice). See what happens there.

I also suggest you open Windows Device Manager (Control Panel >> System) and see if you have any red crosses or question marks present that might indicate conflicts.

These are just thoughts. If none of these ideas work, in your next post, please give us all more specific details about your computer. (Processor, graphics card, sound card, disk space, ram, etc.)

Regards,
Noel

Graphics is an Nvidia Go7900 card with its own memory and the drivers were updated a month or so ago. (This is a laptop by the way)

I did the full install from the USB drive (Option 4)

Sound card is "General MIDI Instrument Misc." and I have "Use VST/DXi" selected I also installed the Roland VST stuff

Before posting I made sure it was a solid problem and only BIAB was affected. It seemed perfectly repeatable as described and only happened with BIAB. I then started shutting stuff down for a reboot (I guess I should have done that too) and shutting down Outlook removed the stuck hi-light. Now everything seems to be working including Outlook (and still no reboot).

So I have no idea what happened.

So for now the problem seems to have fixed itself.

Even on my Vista Machine with 8 gigs + 4 extra and the fast drives I'm getting places where the scrolling of Leadsheets and notes can lag or get lost. I'm used to that to a degree, but wonder if the all Realtracks and some of what I'm doing is dragging even that down a bit.
