Hi everybody

suppose I have a song, using the style _J140_A2 J Smith Jazz Quartet. This style comes with a solo alto sax part, set on "strings" channel.

Now, suppose I want to print this solo sax part AS GUITAR TABLATURE. What should I do?

Clicking on the Notation Window, selecting the "S" (Strings), I have the solo part, but is it possible to print it in tablature?

I read on a PG music web page:

"# select the Melody or Soloist track and set the track type to Guitar to see the Melody or Soloist in Tablature
# Change the finger position on the animated fretboard and Band-in-a-Box will shift the Tablature accordingly, displaying correctly it in the chosen position. Now you're ready to print.

...but I don't understand: how do I "set the track type to Guitar to see the Melody or Soloist in Tablature"??? What does it mean?

Grazie, ciao!

First, if it is a RealTrack, make certain that the TrackName in green is fully underlined, which tells us that there is both Notation AND Guitar TAB available for that particular RealTrack.

If the above applies, go to Notation View (the 8th note toolbar icon) and hit the Options button there.

In the Notation Options window, locate the "Guitar" Track Type and set the dropdown selection for that. Be sure to examine all the options available while in that window.

Also, don't neglect the Guitar Fretboard view in favor of TAB only. Often the fretboared can be a faster way to visualize and learn than TAB can be. Learn how to click on the white blocks beneath the fretboard view to show positions, too.

Thanks, Mac, this was the problem: that soloist track is underlined only at the first half...

Mac, where is the Guitar Track Type? Do you mean the first one, on top left ("track type")? If you mean that one, I have it ALWAYS grayed, whatever is the track (I mean soloist or midi), as "Single Channel" (normal)

Yes, probably it's better, more simple...

Alfredo,

On the Top Menu (where it starts with File... Edit.. Styles... ) Go to the Melody or Soloist (i.e. Click) then you will see Track Type in the drop down menu (the 1 st line)... click on that, and another Menu will open up to show you what type is selected... on that list pick the 3rd option that is "Guitar Standard Tuning". Once you pick that, you will see the tabs appear in the notes section under Melody/Soloist...

Somewhere you can also turn on (check a box) that makes sure the guitar track uses all 6 channels (11 to 16) for each string on the guitar... 11 being the high E,16 being the low E string). That way you will be able to modify the finger positions on the tabs if you don't like what it gives you...

Let me know if that works or you need more help on this..

Ciao

Dick
