here is a link to an old wish which I had hoped would have solved in BB 2010 - not so. Old Wishlist Thread - June 09I pulled an MGU file from my BIAB 2008.5 into the new 2010 chord sheet to find 20 lines in a 100 or so bar song - a new line for every part marker basically. I searched to see if there had been an addition to the F5 key which would "add a combo in the F5 dialog Line Break for this bar Auto (< ------------ default) "Force new line" "No new line" . Unfortunately not. We are still struck with a new section line every time we want to insert a drum fill on a single chorus chord sheet, or section off Intro, verse, chorus, bridge etc. Messy right now. From a songwriter's POV I still think the single chorus is the easiest way to evolve the song format on the chord sheet. But I would still like to see better "sectioning" control. Or am I missing something to this end in 2010. If you read the links above, there was some hope that there would be changes. Cheers All - Ian

If you go into preferences>display; new line for every section (part marker). Couldnt you just uncheck it?
6 strings. 24 frets. An infinite amount of possibilities.

This is true, but then it would be even more difficult to visually split the chord sheet into it's component parts of verse, chorus, bridge, instrumental. If you want to make a chord change in verse 2, you have to count off bar numbers. So now it's either too many lines or not enough lines. If BIAB had different part markers OTHER than a,b,c,d substyles, OR were able to do insert "line-breaks" to divide verses and choruses one from the other, it would be easier to locate the spots where you wanted to insert changes. Right now it's either feast or famine when it comes to part markers - I'd like to see some middle ground. I like the idea of one big chorus - it's easier to see everything - strategically placed line breaks would visually simplify a working chord sheet. After discussions in the spring I thought that's what would happen with the next version. But apparently not. Cheers

Hi Ian,
I agree with you. Like you, I prefer working in a single chorus and it would be great if line-breaks could be inserted manually. This would be excellent for helping to show the separate sections. I presently use text to do this. One of the reasons that I use RB to put my files together, after having produced a rough arrangement in BIAB, is because I can use text markers to easily show the various sections in a linear mode.

I've posted on the wishlist many times for there to be parts A to Z and let us identify them and then enter in a box A B B C D E. If you could assign them then A might be the intro and E the ending..How powerful that would be.
In Brass Band we have one piece this term where it goes A to Z then to AA BB etc...ok people 3 bars before Q...

Hey Noel, John. If you check the thread I inserted above, Peter does say how he can fix the complaint - that's why I thought that it was going to go down in the 2010 issue. It doesn't seem to be that difficult on the surface but then I'm not a programmer and I have a lot of respect for the crew that does the upgrades. Still, using your suggestions John, and proper section/line breaks, which are not tied in to drum fills, would make it easier to set up the chord sheet, see what is going on and build a better arrangement. Noel - I have yet to use RB - but I now have the 2010 version so maybe I'll get brave  . I'll spend a coffee or two reading the manual about text markers. Have a good weekend guys.

Ian. I didn't know you weren't using RB.  If you have used PTW then RB is almost the same with exceptions, which are easy to figure out just by looking at the screen. Using RB is as simple as using BIAB. In fact, I've almost quit using BIAB for anythig other than original creation. Sometimes I use just RB since I can create the song from scratch there too. But using BIAB is really easier. You get everything lined out like you want it in BIAB, save it, then open it in RB to edit until satisfied.
If you are using Sonar then it's going to be like taking a step down in terms of power useage. There is no doubt that Sonar is tops for recording, but only if you are using it to record entire groups with outboard needs. If the only recordings you do are just you and your guitar then RB is the ideal. Much much simpler to use. I can produce anything as good sounding as Sonar can. The reason? It's just editing software like PTW or RB. It's the hardware that makes the difference in quality sound when you made a finished song. Sonar's advatage is it can control outboard equipment as well as it handles VST/VSTi'S better than RB or PTW. But not by much.
Just a thought I thought I'd pass onto you.

Good to hear from you Russ. I've always been using PTW - when RB came out I read the threads and the problems and decided I didn't really need it. Unlike many members here, I am not a Sonar user. The simpler the better - of course this is not BIAB. At this point in RB's evolution perhaps it is time to investigate it - I did after all buy it.  So it is easier to do your basic creation in BIAB (which I do) and then transition to RB. Then you save the file as an SEQ? And then if need be, you can migrate to PT should you wish? Any other hints, or red flags, brothers? Cheers - Ian

RB does *everything* that PT does.
And exactly the same way.
It looks like PT, runs like PT, acts like PT and feels like PT, there is nothing new to have to learn here for the PT user except the addition of the BB engine and if you already are a BB user too, well, that is not a real issue either.
All the good old PT MIDI editing functions are in RB, they are identical in look, feel, function, gui, etc. because they *are* the same good old functions that are in PT!
Because RB is based on exactly the same engine.
The only "new" thing you have to address is the addition of the BiaB generator, the Chord Grid and the fact that there are several "BB Only" tracks, which can be placed at the bottom of the Tracks View with a single button push if you like.
Same Plugins, same controls, same Preferences, same eveything else.
Matter of fact, I've been using RB *instead* of PT for everything involving multitracking that I used to do in PT. Even if the project does not include a single BB track. RB is a direct replacement software for PT. I think that was yet another darn good pgmusic design decision.

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums).
