Do any of you successfully use the lame encoder with BiaB or RB?

I finally got lame installed correctly. It's recognized by windows and BiaB/RB. Trouble is when I try to use it with BiaB/RB (works fine in audiograbber and audacity) I get the messege 'Cannot Get Stream Size' followed by an access violation and RB freezes. BiaB stays active but I can't close the render dialog. I have to use the task manager to shut BiaB/RB down.

I've tried different bitrates to no avail.

Any ideas?

It's not a big deal to me as I can use external programs to create mp3s but it would be convenient to do so within BiaB/RB.

Hey Paul,

I tried also to get this working in BIAB. I ended up just mixing down to WAV and then dragging it into Audacity. FWIW, Lame is awesome, it sure does make your mp3s sound better. I was advised a long time ago to convert using the maximum quality, as well as always using VBR (Varible Bit Rate)
After experimenting, I know why and my tracks still have great dynamics.

I also use LAME encoder from inside Audacity.

Never thought to try it inside BB, RB or PT, but for a lot of other reasons.

I like to edit off heads and tails, "twobeep the head" if necessary, do any gain change needed to a file, etc. in Audacity. Then I just export to mp3 and Audacity uses the fine sounding LAME encoder when doing so.

Craig, have you copied lame_enc.dll to the directory of the application that you want to use it with?

Seems like there's no one who has lame working inside BiaB. As I said, it's not really a big deal for me since I can easily create mp3s with audacity or audiograbber. Still, it would be nice if it worked. Maybe tech support can look into it one day.

I sure agree with this. Lame is MUCH better than the somewhat dated Fraunhoffer (sp?) version.

As far as I can tell BiaB and RB doesn't use the dll version. You need to install the acm version. Unfortunately, even though lame is then recognized it doesn't work.

It works here

Try it at 128/44 stereo

I do get 'can't get stream size' on some settings

I figgered it was due to the priority of the codecs in the control panel but haven't experimented yet..
My dropdown in RB says LAME and I can do certain bitrates. I usually use 128/44 stereo anyway.

This is on the XP machine ..

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I tried 128/22 and 128/44.1. Could be I should try more settings before writing it off. Trouble is I need to use the task manager to exit. It's a bit of a pain to experiment.

Thanks for letting me know it works on some systems though.

I had trouble getting the lame to work with several programs, so i downloaded the stand alone version of lame 3.96 or something and i do all conversions outside the big programs seems to work great for me.
