Hi all
There has been a bit on the forum recently about false BIAB bugs and the like.
Much of which is not down to user error, but Windows operating system problems often after an update or new installation,
Thought I would kick off a list of known things to look out for. I am sure you will be able to list some more.
Windows update sometimes resets processor power priority to less than 100% in power settings advanced, also watch out for sleeping usb devices.
Power schemes in general in widows.
Windows update replacing / updating audio drivers, and or switching back to windows drivers instead of manufacturers dedicated ones (can play havoc with Audio interfaces)
Disable or switch off Any unneeded back ground windows frills that are consuming resources things like Screen savers, desktop slide shows, Skype, ect.
Also consider making BIAB an exclusion from your anti virus program.
That’s just for starters please add any more you now of maybe someone will consolidate the list sometime.

That's quite a good list, especially for a first cut.
After a Windows update, I always go in and check whether my power settings were altered, and whether Windows reactivated the HD audio in my monitor (screen) which I had disabled.
I might also suggest Run BIAB As Administrator. Technically, as Andrew has said, this isn't necessary for the BIAB program, but if BIAB uses any other plugins, it really helps to do this. If I remember correctly, Andrew agreed with something like that.

Totally agree Mike and it's a great list but comments about windows updates are in pretty much every reply to a post by users reporting general Biab problems. It's very well known, not just here but all over the internet. Not being familiar enough with your own Windows OS to not be aware that possible update problems can happen makes it user error by definition imho.

I can recall many years ago dealing with an extremely irate customer. He rang yelling at me “Your systems have turned really buggy since I upgraded my machines”. I asked him to repeat what he was saying. After about the 5th time getting louder and telling me about my stupidity he said “oh I get what you mean my systems broke when I made changes”.
I found that having devices plugged up (USB audio device for example) when doing updates (more particularly upgrades) reduced the number of issues.

Hi all
Couple of other things come to mind.
Problems with audio distortion etc .
May be caused by windows downloading massive updates in the background and other things like Adobe updates, AV, or anything else you allow to download updates automatically.
Another thing that uses up resources is Cortina continually communicating and chattering away. I have set mine to do nothing at all, but you can’t get rid completely
If you don’t need to access a wireless printer, you could also suspend wifi. while running BIAB.
This would also stop updates from the internet if you use wifi and not Lan to connect to your router.
