The latest patch is supposed to include everything the previous patches included; however, given that #293 is beta, you might want to install #292 first, then #293, so you can backtrack to the latest non-beta if something goes awry (which it probably won't).

It's not as direct. For Real Tracks, go by the date of the latest of the files. Not all files are updated during patches. The latest patch was December 22, 2009, containing some files in the /RealTracks folder dated November 2009 (there may be some newer; I didn't check them all). Another place to check is the *.ST2 files in the main /BB folder. I have dates on some of those of December 2009.

I noticed the Beta build 293 as well. Being New to BB, I was curious what the "typical update pattern" is. For stability reasons I will not install a beta build unless it addresses a specific problem I am experiencing. Does PG typically post beta builds before releasing a stable build (not including the major Decemberish release)? How long do BB builds typically stay in beta?

Quite often (but not always) the Beta build ends up being the production build. They will designate it Beta, but I've rarely seen problems with the beta builds. Once enough people try it out and don't report new problems, they will often flip the status from beta to production. Of course, if there are problems, they will post a new different build.

It is easy to revert back to the previous build, if something goes awry, as BIAB backs up the files before applying the build. This is because BIAB doesn't write to the registry, so it doesn't have to back out all those entries. Often it's just a matter of a new BBW.EXE file.

I concur with John (nothing new there). Each new build, beta or not, has been stable for me. I'm guessing that PG Music decided that fixing the freeze/crash problem for some people was important enough to put the fix out, although maybe it hasn't been fully tested yet for unexpected ramifications.

Your question asks what a typical update pattern is. I am not sure there is one. PG Music releases updates whenever they think they are needed. Sometimes you'll get a bunch in a row, and other times many months go by without one. I like that approach, even if it isn't a predictable pattern. Just keep watching the Support page on the PG Music website, and of course someone will post here whenever there are updates.

Look in your bb folder for the "bb2010_backup" folder.

In there you should find four or five key files by date, which is the date you installed any update software.

"Rolling back" to the last known working is as simple as replacing those four files in your bb folder by copying (don't move 'em, leave them there for backups to the backups) them into the bb folder with the date stuff stripped out of the filenames, replacing the files that are in there from the update.

Fairly risk free to update at any time.

OP here, just updated to 293 and opened the backup files as reommended. The application file shows today's date and the time I updated, but the file version reads: 2009.5.0.289.........is that right? Why doesn't the file version reflect the update?

That is odd, have you only done that one update and this one today?

i do recall not seeing the new files in there as long as I still had BB open and running one time, maybe that's it, the program might finish the job at Close when it tidies up lose ends...

well, I did have 2008.5 and I purchased and installed 2010 earlier in Dec from the ultrapakplus HD. Today was my only update...from 289 to 293. I di reboot just in case, but the bbw.exe that backup folder still has the old file version info....I was not having any problems. I just wanted to upgrade to be current. Kind of a mystery. I don't know if the upgrade took or not. Gue I could do it again and see what happens.

You don't have to go thru all that.

Just go to Help -> About and read the current version number reported.

ok, this is a "duh" moment. I checked the bbw app file (not the backup folder) and it reflects the upgrade to 293. Naturally the backup version is 289....duh! Sorry for this wild goose chase. lol

Backup indicates previous version and the date is when the version was superceded.
