Tony, as a fellow sufferer for quite a number of years I offer my insights. While arthritis is associated with aging, there are others factors that exacerbate the symptoms. They include: diet, exercise, physical health, and mental health. I have found over the years , that, for me, certain things work. Generally I eat a low meat high vegetable diet. I supplement my food with UDO's Omega 3-6-9 oil. Serrapeptase which is a natural inflamatory has worked as well. Interestingly I was taking Hubners Silicea (liquid form) as a supplement to harden my nails and I found that it also helped. Alcohol is definitely an agitant, but at times I will pay the price. Every day I walk and I gently "back stretch" my fingers through out the day. Mentally it can be a drag because it can be so painful to play inversions of #9, or certain bar chords etc., so I try not to get down on myself for poor playing. I would try different approaches(I do) to diets, watch the amounts of alcohol/caffeine, and gently stretch. It won't cure it but it may lessen the discomfort some.
