Using current BiaB 2010 with Windows XP...
I recorded melody and soloist MIDI info -- one instrument each -- into a BiaB arrangement. One chorus, no looping. Total play time 5:44. Then I muted everything *but* the melody and soloist parts and direct-rendered DXi to WAV.
The WAV file is about 120MB. If I "Test WAV" then Windows Media Player reports the total play time is double ... 11:28. The last half of the playback is silent. If I render to MP3 via the "Other" button, taking care to pick a new name so BiaB doesn't merely convert the previous WAV file, Windows Media Player still reports the total play time is 11:28. Same thing happens if I render to WMA.
I can use a file splitter to discard the silent material, of course, but what's going on? Any ideas...?

It may be that the End of Song is determined by one or more of the accompaniment tracks and since they are all muted...
Or it may be a bug.
Are you running the latest Update patch?

Build 292. All tracks except melody and soloist are muted both by bar settings at bar 1 and by muting individually at the top of the main display window.
87 bars, tempo 62. (Accommodating some rubato measures)

You should update to build 294.
I'm not sure about your problem, but have you tried leaving a MIDI track unmuted, even if empty? My thinking is related to my experience in SONAR. For example, when I take a BIAB song into SONAR, the program stops at the end of the last MIDI track, and I have to lengthen it a bit so the decay of the last audio notes in other tracks are not cut off.

Okay, I updated to Build 294. I unmuted the bass track. No change. I unmuted the strings track. No change.

Here's a post where a guy had a similar problem. See if any of the suggestions in here work. Post from Ricky HarrisLooks like Ricky removed a 2 second delay to solve his problem.

Hey! Removing the 2-second delay-after checkbox eliminated the 5:44 dead space after the arrangement!
