Hi All, Are these two one and the same thing? When I have been assuming that they are! But, I have just been shown a video of the latest version of the plugin and this looks quite different from DAW Mode I have been using up to now. When I first came across the the idea that this was a plugin I thought I might have to use it withing the target DAW, in my case Ableton. Any clarification would be great.
Thank you. That would answer a few puzzling issues. I can't see the plugin in Ableton and I can't remember the location that the update placed the plugin in. I'll have a look in preferences.
Again, yet another gotcha regarding music production apps. Yes, they all work IF you're nerd enough to know that little tidbit about Ableton. Otherwise this kind of thing is the source of about 95% of "Why doesn't it work!?" posts on this forum. You have to spend days reading and understanding all the little details about all this music production software and even when you do that it WILL still drive you crazy. This includes your hardware interfaces, different drivers, details about your computer system, all of it. Even then you can still have weird crap happen.
Digital audio software is so very easy to use....haha NOT!
Thank you. I'm very disappointed by this whole affair with the DAW plugin. If yo look at the manual there is very little in there that indicates the features of this plugin viz a viz the DAW Plugin mode. Anyway, that may be just me in my reading. However, I only installed the DAW plugin via the update and I no longer can find where this plugin installer.
The BIAB DAW Plugin mode has been around for several years. It is only for added convenience to drag and drop tracks to a DAW. It does just two things:
1) reduce the program window size
2) keep the (now smaller) BIAB window on top.
You don’t need it. You could always reduce the BIAB window yourself and do your drag ‘n drop. In fact, people on occasion get confused when this mode is on and they think they can’t find a program, window, error message etc. Some of us suggested a visual indicator be added so you know whether or not you turned this mode on. An experienced user got fooled by this just two weeks ago.
Then, years later after that feature, we all became more accustomed to using VST2 then VST3 plugins, and in BIAB 2018, after MANY requests by users, PG Music introduced the new BIAB plugin.
It’s just unfortunate the name overlap of ‘plugin’ causes a bit of confusion between these entirely different things.
Hope that helped.
BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Slate VSX, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.
I am running the latest version on Windows 10 - Build 706 (64 bit). This was updated this evening to the latest version of the DAW plugin (which caused my issues in the first place). Thank you though.
What version of Ableton are you running? Version 10.1 and beyond recognize VST 3. if you're having issues I use Ableton with great success and would be glad to help you just let me know the details of where you're having issues
Thank you very much for your very helpful response.
I was not aware that Ableton 10.1+ could recognise VST3 so I have updated my version and it does recognise the DAW Plugin.
The latest version of BIAB for me on the website is build 706 and that has already been installed.
So, I now have the ability to use the DAW plugin in my Ableton software. Unfortunately I seem not to have much in the way of documentation for the plugin.
There is an extensive video showing the features. I thought the latest update to the manual would have included these details. In fact this was the issue that prompted my first post; the manual continually refers to DAW plugin 'mode' but I knew this did not accord with the descriptions I have seen of the features of this plugin. Is there a separate piece of documentation for this?
