I can't even begin to count the number of benefits of being married over being single, so in that regard, I'm a bit envious. I've never found the woman that would put up with me, and I probably never will. Be thankful for what you have. I keep the volume slider on my SD-2 turned all the way up to the right.
I also do the same for the faders in my soundcard's software mixer.
RealDrums and RealTracks are at the default levels and everything matches just fine.

Hi MAC, Yes, I have the slide on the SD2 all the way up (to the right). TASCAM has a round knob for MON MIX; At one end it says Input, and the other "Computer" (please see image URL) http://www.tascam.com/i-3818-146-64-1-7CB8A7E4.jpg I guess if all the sound is coming from the Inputs (midi from the SD2, or inputs from the Mixer), then the knob should be turned all the way Counter-clockwise. If the sound is coming from the PC (i.e. Realtracks/RealDrums or other audio files mp3 etc...) then I guess the knob should be turned all the way Clockwise to Computer). In cases where I have both (i.e BIAB midi tracks + Realtracks) then I am guessing the knob should be in the center, but I am finding this is not giving the best results. I also have the Line Out fader all the way UP and both knobs for Line Ins (L & R) turned fully counterclockwise pointing to Line (as I don't have anything plugged in the MIC inputs). Does that make sense? If I use the Mixer, The Midi Out on TASCAM is plugged into SD2 MIDI IN I am plugging the SD2 in tracks 5&6 with the MUTE button pressed down to send signal to ALT 3-4 I am plugging the Line Out from the TASCAM into Tracks 7&8 The ALT 3-4 Line Out from the Mixer into the TASCAM's Line IN (L&R) The PC Speakers are now plugged into the Control Room Out from the Mixer I have both "Source" buttons (ALT3-4 and Main Mix) pushed down and the volume pod next to them on 12:00 position (? is this OK?) The fader for track 5&6 is at 0db, and 7&8 is on 0db (is this OK?) What's the best position for the sliders for the ALT3-4 and MAIN MIX? 0db? higher or lower? Max? And then, I have the separate volume control for the speakers... Where's the best place ideally to adjust the volume? I keep the volume slider on the Ketron at max.
And try some all midi files through it.
Have you downloaded and installed the .pat file so you can get to the higher banks?
If not check on the website here and get the patch, stash it somewhere logical, and then select that with the + sign, on the line with the instrument, the GM 2 box, the F box and then the + sign.

John, Yes to all the above.
Knew about the patch before I got the gizmo
The all-MIDI files sound really good.
Even when mixed with Realtracks, files sound good.
The only remaining thing is to get the best levels on all the different volume levels on the Mixer figured out.. hence waiting for MAC's input to my latest post... and I should be happier than a pig in sh*t. LOL.

Start withe the mixer *channel* (not "tracks") faders up rather high for each channel used, but only "crack" the Master Fader to get desired volume.
Ideally, the separate channel faders should be turned up higher than the Master Output. This will yield the best signal to noise ratio.
For example, on my little mixer here, the channel that the ketron is in is turned up all the way. The master fader is down around the 3 oclock position, it is a knob type. That would be aprox 1/4th of full travel.

Thanks MAC, got it. For the Master level, I have 2 sets of faders (for the ALT3-4 bus, and the Main Mix) should I treat the Bus faders the same way as the MAIN...?
For just playback I only have the SD2 on channel 5/6 and that goes to the 3-4 bus, for recording I will also have my guitar/amp plugged into channel 1.
I'll probably have to learn also what to do when it comes to recording..
There were 2 more areas of uncertainty:
- The knob next to the SOURCE Buttons
- The TASCAM MON MIX balance knob

BTW, I am absolutely loving my SD2 and starting to really enjoy RealBand too.
I am getting much better at this. All the solos generated by BIAB and RB are suddenly sounding so real! The possibilites are just endless... It's 2:17 AM and I am still awake LOL!
