I am starting to experience problems with the HD version of 2010. First of all, after I've entered a song in BB, I can't change a Chord without starting the song. For example: If I want to erase a chord that I've entered, I high-lite the cord, press space bar, enter and It is supposed to go away. Now that action starts the song where I high-lited the chord. I also use to be able to change a chord during playback. Can't do that either. That has changed since 2009. 2nd, When I use real tracks, sometimes the song slows down or sometimes it freezes and locks up the system and after a while it comes back in. I have tried re-booting but with no success. I have went through the re-install program but still experience the same problems. I have downloaded the latest build to my HD version, still does not work. Need help. I am at my work now but will implement whatever suggestions you have when I get home tonight.
I have an old IBM 2.2 Giga Hertz PC with a Sound Blaster Audigy Sound Card which BB recognizes during set up. My operating system is Windows XP. By the way, 2010 worked great when I first loaded it on Christmas day, however I didn't try out the chord change thing at that time. Thanks for your help in advance.

There is a setting to start and stop songs with the spacebar. Go to Options Prefs and on the right side are the settings for the spacebar.

Opt. >> Preferences: There's a setting on the right (about half-way) down the box to set the Space-bar function. If you have reset to factory settings, it might have reverted to activating play from the current position. (Ahh.. I see John Conley beat me! Got to be quick in these forums.)

I have just tried my version and I can change chords during playback. The new chord doesn't sound though until the song is regenerated (this seems logical to me).

From what you say, I take it that you have installed update #294. A couple of things are worth trying:
(1) Turn off the fast regeneration of Realtracks (Opt >> Realtracks). Fast regeneration is a background process and it might be pushing your computer to both play and generate; (some people have found that once turning it off, it can be turned back on and it works fine)
(2) check available disk-space it could be that you are running low;
(3) defrag the internal disk.

Try the above, and then let's see what else needs to be done to get BIAB ship-shape for you

You can also use the Delete key on your computer keyboad to get rid of a chord you typed in.

Thanks for the info. guys. Will try as soon as I get off work. As far as disk space goes, I have about 38 gigs. left on my hd. That's why I bought the HD version. At Christmas, I moved all my BB Files from my hard drive to the portable HD From PG Music. I did defrag after that, I do that quite often and yes I downloaded 294 build. But turning the Real Tracks Reg mode off and on, I haven't done. Sounds like my problem so I will do just that.
Another Question while I'm here. I re-connected my midi interface cable to my soundcard so I could hook up a midi keyboard. That worked great for recording. However, I couldn't figure out how to input a guitar directly into the soundcard. Should I use the Sound Blaster Mike input, the PC mike input, or plug my jam box (Digitec 1000 Workstation) directly to the midi interface? Which one would be best? I guess that's two questions!.

Line out of digitech into line In of soundcard.

Never plug line level connections into a mic input

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I have two midi cables, line in and line out, coming out of my sound card. Do I plug both in to the jambox or just to the line out of the jam box?

MIDI connects are not Analog Audio Line connects. Two different things entirely. The MIDI connects on that jambox are only for certain control signals. You need to connec the Audio Outputs of the jambox to the Audio Line Inputs of the soundcard in order to be able to record any Audio output of the device.

MIDI is only data -- it cannot be heard in and of itself.

I'm not quite clear, here. Did you run #294 and install it to your USB drive after downloading it or simply copy it over the external hard drive?

Hi David,

The update is a self-extracting .exe file and you need to double-click on it to run it so that it can install the appropriate files. When you do this, the update will guide you through the actual update process.

I seem to recall from past posts that you did this following bit, but just to double-check, when you installed BIAB on the USB drive, did you read the ReadMe First.pdf file on the USB drive and follow those installation instructions?

Regards,
Noel

Which button? Turn off Real Tracks or Speed up Real Tracks?

Hi David,

I take it that you are referring to my post immediately after John Conley's. I'd try Opt. >> Preferences >> Realtracks and then remove the checkmark from "speed up generation of realtracks". See if that makes the playing smoother. If it does, put the checkmark back again and it might work properly.

Noel

Thanks Noel,
I think that did the trick. I can now change real track styles without it freezing up. However I did find one song that I opened which immediately hung up. It was a song that I used Audio Chord Wizard on. I had to completely re-boot to get bb working. I think it is corrupt an will delete the file. Thanks for your help. The space bar suggestions worked also. Thanks again.

David,
To check that the latest update is properly installed, go to Help >> About Band In A Box and you'll see the update number in parentheses beside 2010.

I'm glad we made a bit of headway on the other problem.

Noel
