While I use and love my Ketron SD-2 and SD-4, my MIDI rack still has quite the assortment of older synths available. There are certain things that each one still does well and I love that also.

I think the Ketrons outshine most all of my older hardware MIDI solutions when it comes to the GM bank, though, and it is now my synth of choice for auditioning General MIDI files, running BiAB for practice, etc. The Yamaha keyboard that contains a real GM bank and not an XG bank is my second choice, it is getting long in the tooth but can hold its own for the most part. The old W-7. And like your 1010, it has all the addon patch boards installed, quite an investment.

That 1010 still should have a lot of life left to it.
