Hi Folks,
I have just seen reading another thread on here that its possible to edit real drums. Is it a fairly easy thing to do say for example to create an ending or a roll? A few quick tips on how to approach this would be appreciated.

I don't edit them, but I put in a part marker to get the break effect. Works OK, I usually don't need much in the way of modification, I trusted PG music to do the hard part of the work. On the other hand, If you figure it out and your edited drums are better, they might just hire you!

Realdrums are editable by cut/paste. Not as much control as you are envisioning. You would have more luck with 'styles' using MIDI if you want a lot of control.
You can generate a lot of realdrum tracks in different styles and see if you find what you need, but if it's an exact hit sequence you are after you may not find it. Once generated, cutting and pasting what you want where you want it is easy enough.
I have cut/pasted a couple beats from one style to another to get a certain fill or change, so you can change a track a lot. It's just not the total control you get with MIDI. Drumrolls are hard to come by in realdrums, I think.
Endings are the next hardest.

Hands up if you want marching band realdrums with drumrolls, quad drums, bass drums etc. And in Band in a Box it might be the only time a glock stays in tune. I played that for a year and complained to our mentor and my current band leader Dr. Hank who explained when it changes 10 degrees it's just out of tune. Drove me insane.
The best instrument to play in the band is the triple or quad drum. You can see the kids clapping and dancing. Behind the Baritone horn you don't see much at all, trying to watch the Drum Major is even a challenge if you are in the middle.

Wow, some drum corps realtracks (triple or quad) may be pretty cool. .. lotta power there.
Lots of others ahead of that on my wishlist of realtracks though. Some defined endings and labaled as such so they could be generated when needed would be cool, especially if listed in the realtrack selection as a variation or two so you could 'match' up they better choices to your needs.

It is possible to roll your own realdrums.
That would involve first being able to record a real drummer to wav files.
There's more to it than that, of course.
But since there is likely no drum roll -- or at least not one "in the pristine" all by itself -- already on a RealDrums track, being able to edit one to get a drumroll is not going to be possible.

I used to just play a drum roll on my mic stand with my thumb, index and third finger when the need arose, as it would come out loud and clear through the pa speakers. Now, for the gigs I play when I know someone will have to make announcements, I just play a drum roll wav (already loaded) via windows media player. You can find these wav files all over the net.
