When A Heart CriesI've uploaded a new version, with almost no drums.Wrote this for a film opportunity. It's just a musical bed with a mostly undefined melody. It will play as a family is en route to the funeral of a loved one lost in a tragic auto accident. All the tech stuff: File:When A Heart Cries.SGU Key=C#m, Tempo 65, Length (m:s)=3:11 Style is _NEBULA.STY (Nebula Modern Country Pop Ballad) RealTracks in style: 1592:Bass, Electric, Pop16ths Ev 065 RealTracks in song: ~1639:Piano, Electric, Rhythm JazzFunkBreezy Ev16 075 RealTracks in style: 3160:Guitar, Baritone Electric, Rhythm AmericanaSlow16thsBrent Ev16 060 RealTracks in song: 2542:Pedal Steel, Background ModernBalladAtmosphere Ev16 065 Loop in Song: Drums\MarkTreeFills[single] RealTracks in song: 1543:Synth Pad, PopBelieve Ev16 065 RealDrums [in Song:PopRock8ths^01-a:Closed Hat, Snare, b:Open Hat, Snare ** I replaced the style's original drum, piano and loop tracks with ones that gave me the "feel" I was looking for. Many thanks in advance! All comments/suggestions appreciated. Be safe, everyone. Alan

Alan,
I always really like your instrumentals. They are always "thoughtful", well put together.
The dreamy steel is an excellent choice for the sad scene you are describing. ...but, I would question the inclusion of the drum track. That seems "out of place" for the situation. This would be "more poignant" without it (I think).
Hope y'all are both doing well..

Yes, the steel is the deal. IF you keep the drum track I suggest you find and blunt the click of the kick as it's a little intrusive into the rest. Something subtle like a bodhran or even a shaker would hold down the measurement of time. LOVELY stuff.

Alan, Fits the mood you are going for- that pedal steel RT is wonderful. I agree with other comments on the drums not quite fitting. Good luck with the submission!

Well, it is for a funeral well done. Yeah drums not so much. The song is very good Al. Did you get it listed for the spot? Cliff

Hi Alan,
I love that sad melody. It would also fits nicely with vocals, but without them its really good. Never thought the steel guitar works so nicely in this kind of songs. And about the drums, they didn't bother me at all. I liked them with that -somewhat- penetrating beat. It helps in giving you feel the tension of what might come (in the movie). But I think this is a matter of taste. So very well done,
Hans PS: stay safe

Fits the described mood very well.
There are several of those atmospheric/ethereal steels that we've used. I think they are uniformly excellent RT's.
Perhaps a stick option if you stick with the drums?
Very nice and an outstanding use of RT's.

Alan, You have a special talent for soulful arrangements. So far, I do not believe I heard a weak one. This is certainly not exception. Beautiful work. Maybe one day I will drive through MO and beg for master class?
Cliff's comment made me smile. Sad, but funny. Also, I listened briefly to WAHC yesterday, and did not understand what Ray said about the click of the kick... I listened to it again today and I can hear it too. Does not bother me personally, but I think Ray is correct.
Thank you for sharing!
Misha.

Allan, this is another winner. Super work with those RTs. I agree that the drums don't really fit and if you take them out it would be a sad ambient song.
Great work here.

A really enjoyable listen, evocative, sensual, and has certainly captured the intended spirit of the song perfectly.

Nice. The guitar reminds me of Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon era. In fact the whole tune does. Good production.

Very beautiful melancholy chording, I'm sure the touching elements would be even stronger when used in a sad movie ala Love Story. Good selection of instruments, the pedal steel and marktree fills fit nicely.
