Hi, I'm having problems getting version 12 to run correctly on my new pc with Windows 7, the first was a sync problem which I still have to sort out but now the program crashes everytime when I press "save take" My sound card is a Soundblaster XFi platinum I have AS10 set up in pref's, I had no problems with running the old version 8 on XP and I wish I could still load it onto Windows 7 but no go there it seems.
Does anyone know what might be causing it to crash it's getting very frustarting now.
Any help please
David.

Likely problem -
User Control

It's not allowing the STOM.exe file to run properly.

You'll have to use an administrator log in so it allows that to run.

You can try this -
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-v...-windows-vista/

Be forewarned that this does reduce the security of that system a bit.
May want to turn back on before going on the internet.

It's something easy to try.
There may other ways of setting the user control parameters, hopefully someone else will chime in.

On Win 7 here whenever I imort a file or make changes that invoke the STOM.exe program Win7 just asks if I want to allow it to make changes. It sounds like that may be the point you are crashing at.
Try using 'Audio - import wave file to test my theory.

Another thing to check is to see if FP32 is stuck open in the Task Manager. Before attempting to save, open Task manager and see if FP32 is running. If it is, try End Process, then try to save and see if that works.

Other than those two ideas, I'm stumped.

Prefs -> Audio -> Drivers and try checking, "ASIO Always On" see if that helps.

Thanks to you all for the replys to my questions, I have tried everything you have suggested, powertracks 12 will let me record one track ok, but when I try to record a second track and then hit the stop button at the end the "keep take window" flashes up briefly and the program crashes I then have to restart and reset everything in powertracks which is a pain and I only get the same result when I try again.
I have two choices now go back to Windows XP and install version 8 which I know worked fine before or get another software program, does anyone know of a decent one that will work with Windows 7
Cakewalk looks good but a bit expensive.
Thanks again
David.

Have you tried using MME instead of ASIO? That's always a good place to start when troubleshooting.

Are you recording MIDI or Audio? Are you using the soundcard's soundfonts or are you using the Forte DXi synth, or are you trying to use the Microsoft built-in wavetable synth?

Have you installed the latest update? Have you tried running as administrator? Did you install to the default folder or under Program Files (x86)?

I presume you are running Windows 7 64-bit. Have you updated your Creative soundcard drivers?

Even if you go back to XP, why not try installing PowerTracks 12 to XP? Why do you need to go back to version 8? Actually, you should be able to install both versions and switch between them for comparison purposes.

Just a few things to think about; you probably already have, but just thought I'd ask.

Hi John, thanks for the info, I have tried just about everything now, I have run a compatability check and re set powertracks 12 to XP service pack 2, and then Vista service pack 2 and got the same results in both, I cannot load my old version 8 on my new PC Windows 7 it will not read the disk, all my other programs seem to be running without a hitch, this is very strange and very frustrating indeed. The best result was with Vista service pack 2 at least it let me record four tracks before it crashed and again it was when I hit the stop button after the take, the "Save track" Menu appeared for a brief moment then everything seemed to lock up as if stuck in a loop.
I'm not that up on all the technical ins and outs of computers so not too much tech speak or I just get totaly lost in it all
Thanks for any help
David.

May be something running in background that is conflicting.

Did you check task manager for fp32.exe being stuck open? Try it a couple times and see if it helps, unfortunately you would have to check it before each save so it may be best to leave taskmanager open for a session (it's a pain to open in win7) Before recording a track close fp32 as a test procedure. After keeping take see if it is open again..

Just asking, since it seems you can get it to work for 2-4 tracks before crashing. FP32 does disk writing as far as I can tell, where STOM does conversions in format to/from seq format. Just guessing from what I've seen in action.

System came with win7 and 2gig RAM installed ?

May be time to ask support ..

Hi everyone, here's something to add to the problems with powertracks crashing, It seems now that the program only does this when I am using the ASIO drivers it does not do it with the MME drivers, the only problem I have now is the awfull latency when recording, is the anything I can do to stop this if there is I may be ok

Where are you experiencing latency?

If it is in playback of midi there is a file called latencyadjust or such that is used to help adjust for this. Basicly your audio buffer size needs to be increased usually.

Are you trying to actually play the sounds from your soundcard? Are you sure the SB card is selected as the MIDI device for midi output, and not the MidiMapper or such?

If audio, latency shouldn't be a problem..

Is the SB card selected as th input and output device in the preferences-audio- drivers area?

It should be the only one highlited and at the top of the list

Just to add, when I use the ASIO drivers and look at the VU meters both input and output show a signal and I get an echo sound when I play my guitar, have gone into the audio window for record and speakers and turned each input on and off to try and stop this but it doesn't work. Could it be a problem with the sound card maybe I should install another and try that, I have downloaded the latest driver for the Card Audigy Xfi platinum but I get a message that Creative cannot find any device on my system although when I go into
System the Soundblaster Xfi card is there and it says this device is working properely, having looked at the Creative web site there are a lot of people having this same problem. Having said all this the sound card worked fine in my old XP set up as did Powertracks.
Very strange.

Creative drivers are behind quite often. If it worked in XP and not in Win7 that is a good place to look.

In the soundcard mixer do you have 'whatUhear' enabled?

This may be causing the loop around echo ..

frankly i would look at an alternative better sound device solution
that has excellent w7 drivers.
zzounds.com has a nice list of sound devices from cheap thru pricey.
it often comes down to how well a particular sound device works re drivers.
thus sometimes you have to test a few sound devices to find one that works
well in your particular pc.
i had many probs with creative years back , so i stayed away from em after that.
generally what i recommend for a basic dawpc is 2 gigs ram. dual core.
two 7200 rpm drives. one for win OS and one for recording to.
the recording hard drive i recommend as 7200 rpm with 32 mb cache.
such good drives are very cheap these days at 70 buks.
read my tips sometime for further tips in the tips n triks section of these forums..
to save me lots of retyping.
all the best.

There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
