My friend in Tennessee just wrote this parody song and put it on youtube. If this is against the rules. I'll remove it.

Now the BIG DISCLAIMER: THIS DOES NOT REPRESENT MY PERSONAL VIEWS.
But the lyrics are funny.

Josie,

Do you know if your friend used BIAB to create the song?

Pat,

No he didn't, but I'm trying to convince him to buy it. Unfortunately he was layed off from his job so it may be a while.

Must be what motivated this song. Pretty cool too.

I was reading today that Obama's rating is now below 50%, and well over 50% of the population things all of Congress who are up for election this year should be replaced.

Now, *that* would be interesting.

+1 on that one Sandra. This thread has had me thinking about dusting off my George Bush Song that I never published out of a desire to not be controversial.

Well, when you pontificate from a glass house, you can expect some stones to come your way (deserved or not). It goes with the job.

True we did not get where we are in just one year . . . but when the wagon is loaded to the point of the axel starting to crack and break, you don't add to the load, in record quantities yet! Tough times coming no doubt, but we shall overcome.

Still a pretty funny song.

I appreciate your point, but comparing wagon axles to the economy doesn't quite hold up. When the economy is as f**ked up as it has been, the federal government is the only entity that CAN spend anything...and something has to be spent in order to get things moving again. Doing nothing, I believe, is definitely not an option...unless you don't care whether we enter another 30's-like depression. The economy is like the world's largest elephant...hard to stop it, hard to get it to change direction, and extremely hard to get it moving. A VERY slow process indeed.

Marv,
I'll agree with you on the 'new politicians' thing. It's a very Catch-22 type of situation. Do you get rid of all of the leeches that haven't done anything except to solidify their own personal standing and entrenchment, or do you elect a bunch of 'has beens' and 'wanna-bes', or worse, the total klutz, just because they're different.

Let's get rid of the lawyers and Poli-Sci grads (or, non-grads) and put some hard working, blue collar family people who understand what it's like to face rising costs in the grocery store, know what a laser scanner is used for, and has to face taxes at the end of the year.

On the other hand, I think the wagon analogy is a very good one. When you overload a car, no matter what the purpose, good, bad, or indifferent, it is designed to hold only so much. Go beyond that, and it'll fail. Our economy is failing because we overloaded it the wrong way. Adding trillions of dollars in long term debt is not going to relieve the load, even if you spread it out, the weight is still there.

But, the American people are as much to blame as the government and corporate bankers are, so I have little sympathy for any of them. I just try to get my credit card debt knocked down to nothing, and save a little bit of money, and make sure I have enough ammo in the gun safe.

Gary

That was certainly not as mean-spirited as I was expecting. A lot of it seemed to be a hopeful plea for help, and the real "anti-Obama" stuff was not as thick as I thought it would be. Even though it's obvious where the author's politics lie, he did show some restraint, which I think did a good job of separating him from the more strident right-wingers out there.

And even though I'm a "pro-Obama" guy in the sense that I voted for him, and still have hopes that he can help us pull it out of the dumps, I have to admit that I laughed at a few things. The timing of the picture that went with the "stay home with his wife" got a laugh out of me.

Eight,
I'm not a 'Pro-Obama' guy, I knew going in what he was all about, and it's been painfully obvious ever since he took office. Of course, on the other hand, McCain would have been no better. The problem is, for ANY person sitting in that chair, is that our country as a whole, has derailed itself, due to any number of reasons you'd care to state, and any number of reasons anyone else would care to state.

Until the country, as a whole, decides to "...pick itself up, dust itself off, and start all over again!" (to quote a song, since this is a music related forum) then no one is going to be able to get us out of the mess we're in. Since there are a number of people, the majority or just a very vocal minority I can not say, who want to abdicate personal responsibility and let others be responsible for their own actions, or the actions of others around them, then the others who can not or will not stand up and say 'No, it's not the governments/schools/church's/Enter your Favorite Organization Here responsibility, it's YOURS!', will allow us to continue on the road we are on.

Leadership is from the top down, not the bottom up. That starts with the President, Congress and those elected to office. Actually, it comes from something higher than that, but that is not a discussion I wish to start on this forum. If the leadership is not leading, or can not inspire those under to follow, then something else will. If we have been led down the road to self destruction, it is no one's fault but our own for following. There *were* people who saw it, tried to warn others, but they did not heed. So, we are where we are.

I'll get off my soap box now.

Gary
