I'm trying different Melodist styles on a song and saving the various choices to separate MGU files. The issue is that when I load an older file and open the Melodist dialogue, it defaults to my latest Melodist style choice and does not appear to display the Melodist choice I made when I saved the file. Unfortunately, I do not remember the Melodist choices saved with individual files.
Am I missing something? How do get the Melodist to display the Melodist choice I made when the file was saved?

No it doesn't save the last Melodist number you chose for that song. I suggest opening the Song Memo window and making a note of the Melodist number there. If you are trying to figure out what Melodist you used for a particular song, you could look for the style used in your song, since by default most melodists will load a specific style. e.g. #1 loads _DEPTHS.STY. You could click in the Melodist selection field and tap the down arrow until you see the style.
The information regarding which Melodist was used is only saved in a limited format. For older files, it's possible that this information is lost.
When one uses Melodist, the information about which Melodists have been used is stored in the "Fav" (Favorites) button shown on the upper image below. From this list, you can see that #44 and #8 were the last two that I've played around with.
When BIAB is reinstalled, though, this information is likely to get over-written. What I've found as the best way of saving Melodist and Soloist information is to record it in Song Memo. This is saved with the song files and is easy to look up. (This is the lower image below.)
