Just a quick note to tell you too that I really enjoyed this discussion. Out of curiosity I went to listen to Jim's production on SoundCloud and I understand much better what he does, what he happens to do. It's just superb. And we can hear all the mixed parts or not of RT Medley. Really well done for this queue and thank you again. I'm less ignorant, and that's always good.

Hi Marco. Thanks for letting us know you found this topic helpful. I'm hoping others did too and will take a look at the RT Medley. The RT Medley's value has not diminished with the release of BIAB version 2021 and the introduction of the new Utility Tracks. Fact is, it's more valuable than ever as the Utility Tracks provide new options, easy storage of RT Medleys and bumps the number of instruments and tracks to enormous totals.

Thanks too for taking time to listen to my example song and don't overlook that the song was recorded and arranged back in 2017 on a older version of BIAB and certainly not on a computer anyone could define as a power PC and Windows 10. RT Medley's should work with anybody's computer system.

Your comments brightened my day. Have a good day,

Charlie

There are more Fogles around than you can shake a stick at!

Well if you are so inclined to shake sticks at Fogles.

As thread starter, I should probably write something...
No, I do not mind that initial concern weathered down. I would probably delete everything on top to the point where Andrew replied on topic of "UT Picker".

It was an interesting, and in some points tense discussion.
We can argue till we turn blue on what things should be "called", but in reality it makes little or no difference. I think the strongest argument JJJ made which was concise and precise and which I will side with him was:

"It is always the responsibility of the designer to observe how users use (or do not use) something and adjust for that. Building an awesome thing that most people don't know how to or want to use is a design fail."

Can it be changed for the better? Sure it can.

P.S. Charlie, very nice track btw.

It would also be great if the Utility Tracks, once generated into a real track, could have the same options as a real track, including the ability to mute and restart instruments at any measure in the song.

Totally agree and would have likely been better to have moved the conversation to the Recording Forum but it's run it's course and maybe folks can find it embedded into this thread.

In the past you've given me several good video editor links and a gif link but as far as the video, my PC has struggled and I never gave gif's a fair shake at learning that software.

I have also approached several YouTube Tutorial channel owners and video bloggers but with no success. They all have workflows that include DAW's and are die hard DAWser's. wink

Maybe some that have interest will post a request in the I'd like a Video Forum...

Marco I appreciate the compliment but I believe you meant to say Charlie. But don't worry, we don't mind when people get our names mixed up. I wish I had Charlie's talent and he wishes he had my brains! smile

<< "It is always the responsibility of the designer to observe how users use (or do not use) something and adjust for that. Building an awesome thing that most people don't know how to or want to use is a design fail." >>
The Utility Picker is a work in progress and there's no argument PG Staff is on it and adjusting to how even users who maybe were unaware of it's existence and users that had trouble with how it's used or didn't use the feature. Anybody that knows how to open a RealTrack in the BIAB Mixer will know how to use the RealTrack Medley tool so there's no issue with the design nor implementation of using it.

The Medley feature has been around for many years and was enhanced and upgraded both in 2019 and 2020 versions. The Medley window tracks are as 'real' as the BIAB Mixer tracks or any RealBand tracks and even any DAW tracks. The Medley feature was prominently mentioned in the yearly New Features videos both years - and I agree somewhat that designers have to be acquainted with the wants and needs to how users implement new features, nothing can be done beyond what PG staff has done to make users aware of the Medley Feature.

<< Can it be changed for the better? Sure it can. >>
It should not be long before an better and enhanced Utility Picker is introduced and I wouldn't be surprised to see improvements made to the Main RealTrack Picker.

<< P.S. Charlie, very nice track btw. >>
Thank you. It's the track where I first introduced my experience and use of the Medley feature and completed a song with more than 8 tracks and a fairly complex arrangement and although mentioned that in my Forum post in the Users Showcase, it only had one poster comment on the fact. Mind you, that song was done early in 2017 long before the 2019/20 upgrades and enhancements.

Orangeburg is the area where the Fogle's originally settled on coming to South Carolina. My Grandfather and his brother left the Orangeburg area in 1923 for Horry County where they both purchased farms. There's ton's of them in the Orangeburg area still today. Your friend Jerry sounds like a 'true' Fogle with acting out in study hall. There's surely some kinship between us but I don't personally know him.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
