Hi,
i am just starting to use realband and have followed the video from the beginning, inserting chords, defining the length of song, defining the style (=classy), up to the point where I select "generate". I then get a drop down menu, and when I select "Generate All", I get a message " No previously generated track found to regenerate". In the video the track were generated as soon as the button was pressed.
I have all the styles and realtracks required,
I am using WinXP and have installed build 4,
any ideas?

I don't think you are supposed to generate tracks the first time via that dropdown.

I generate tracks the first time via the RealTracks picker window, where there is a button at the bottom for that.

I don't have RealBand in front of me, so I'm just going from memory, but...

Are your first bunch of tracks (I forget how many) set as BIAB tracks? It seems there is a switch to turn them on and off. If you want tracks generated based on a BIAB style, then the first 8-10 or so tracks need to be BIAB-tracks enabled. Just a thought. I know you can turn that off and make RealBand more like PowerTracks (making tracks black, rather than blue).

The other thing to check is to make sure you don't have a section of a non-BIAB track highlighted. I believe it will try to generate in that highlighted space, which would be undefined at this point. Press ESC to clear any highlighting.

May or may not help, but won't take long to check it out.

I believe the command to set tracks to BiaB tracks is in the 'Tracks' pulldown.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Thanks for the tip Mac, I generated each track individually and then did a total generation. The Realband video is rather misleading on this, something I really love. I find the BIAB programs difficult enough, and when things don't do what I expect, I figure that I'm too dumb to use em.

John, I couldn't find any reference to BIAB tracks, so that wasn't the problem. After I had generated a few times though some BB realtracks appeared alongside my tracks. I haven't clue what I did wrong there, but after I moved some bars around I managed to get an access violation, which abruptly ended my session without saving.

At least I've learned something. Thanks for your help
Chris

If I get a chance, I'll try it tonight and see what happens on my computer.

Okay, I'm confused by your last response. If you selected "=CLASSY" as the style, that implies you want the BIAB parts generated.

I tried what you described on my machine. I set the bars to use (Start at 1, end at 60), entered a chord progression, selected =CLASSY as the style to use, then clicked on "Generate", then selected "Generate BB (All BB Tracks)" (I didn't find one that just said "Generate All"). It generated the first 5 tracks. Track 1 is a MIDI Nylon Acoustic Guitar, track 2 is MIDI string ensemble 1, track 3 is RealBass 768, track 4 is RealDrums (jazz brushes sticks), and track 5 is RealPiano.

Played fine and sounds good.

If you look at the Tracks menu, there are two menu items regarding BB - "Make all BB tracks regular tracks" and "Make first 8 tracks BB tracks".

So, if you're not seeing those, which version of RealBand are you running?

John, I am probably confusing the matter, as I am still totally confused and overwhelmed by BIAB and Realband anyway. I managed to evoke an access violation after copying and pasting parts of the song in the chords view. Unfortunately my C drive became full during this exercise and I made the mistake of clicking the windows " get rid of unused files" button. That also removed the undo files for Realband, and when I tried to save, all crashed. As if that was not enough, it screwed up my disc access, so I couldn't address my drive anymore. Luckily I have a copy on another drive, which I copied across. At about 160Gigs it took some time. After I had recovered my drive, I decided to add some partitions to my backup drive so that if something like that happened again, I wouldn't lose everything on the drive. Well it must have been my lucky day, because I managed to screw that up as well somehow, and lost my backup drive.
Luckily I had copied all the files to the other drive, so I haven't lost any data. Anyway I now have more partitions and my data is back on my backup drive so I'll see if I can do it again. In the video it all looked so damned easy BTW I'm using Realband 2010 build 4.
I'll get back to you..

Update:
The Realband video is misleading at 3:59, where it says just press Generate and Realband will decide based on the selected style, which instruments to use and generate the tracks accordingly blah blah... If you follow that, put in the chords, select a style from Realstyles, and press Generate, nothing happens. If you select the last command "Generate All", then you get the message that it can't regenerate any tracks.
If however, you select the first 8 tracks as BiaB tracks as Rharv mentioned, and then select "Generate All", Realband will generate, starting at track 9 all the tracks it deems necessary according to the style selected, in this case _BBBLUES.

Anyway now I know I can generate tracks individually from track one, or automatically from track 9.
