Perhaps you can share what you are doing before the system becomes unresponsive. Many of the issues I had with 2010 becoming unresponsive appeared to be fixed by the updates.

Make note of what process stalls the system whether it be editing a measure, inserting a Real Track, etc.

Thanks,
RickeG

First, always try a reboot of the machine.

If that fails, try Options -> Return to Factory Settings.

You could have a corrupted download of the update file.

Try clearing your browser cache and then downloading it again, executing it right overtop of the other.

This has happened to me with the latest version, Vista 64, 10 gigs memory 1TB hard drive IF I mess with stuff while the song is generating. But I can't duplicate it in such a manner to cause it to always crash. I call the the grey screen, have seen it 4 or 5 times, but I can have a lot going on with the keyboard, vocal box, wireless mouse, and all the other stuff there.

I can confirm the problem, but not the root cause.

Hi Mac
It happened again so I tried to reboot, the pc rebooted ok ,so I opened biab and I returned to factory settings.I then selected in the realtracks country style" Hayride fast cty sw w ResGuitar (190 rs)" changed the key to D and set the tempo to 190,Pressed play to generate the tracks,it plays ok untill you press any other key then it freezes and the screen goes white
As for your third tip could you give me a bit more detail on how to clear my browser cache
thanks Dez

you are right it is more of a grey screen
I have nothing else hooked up to the pc so it is just biab running. However I tried generating a track usig the midi styles and had no problems
it only seems to occur when I try to generate the realtracks
my set up is Windows 7 home premium 32 bit OS with an i3 processor 1tb hard drive with 3 gig ram
Thanks Dez

This might be a clue.

I experienced the white/gray (grey for John) hesitation screen while generating Real Tracks. At the same time, I heard a few clicks from my hard drive. I went into the properties of the drive and did Tools, Error Checking (Windows 7). Some errors were found and fixed. The white/gray screen disappeared.

Right, that was a long shot idea, but it seems to have helped me.

FYI, this is the drive shipped to me by PG Music, which I took out of the external drive case and mounted in the main PC case.

Hello Dez,

If I understand correctly, you are saying that this only happens to you with build 295? Can you verify this by reinstalling build 294:

Hi Andrew
I uninstalled build 295 and then done a fresh install from my external biab drive,I went to the help tab and it says it is biab 2010 294
and again after about 2 minutes of trying to generate realtracks i get the white /grey screen
on two occasions I got an error saying "out of memory at 008685c9."
I received my biab in December"external hard drive version everything pack" and only done the updates about a fortnight ago so the version prior to build 294 was running ok i assume. I first done the 294 then the 295 update to the program installed on my pc,I then installed update 294 to the external drive and this is the version I installed on my pc last night and it is still crashing.
Tonight I am going to run my old pc" Windows XP "which has the first install from the biab hard drive and see what happens
I will let you know what happens
Derek

Derek,

I don't think this is a BiaB or an update version problem after reading your last post.

I am starting to suspect Video drivers here.

You should go to the website of the mfr of your Videocard and take a look around, see if there have been newer Video drivers published for download. OR -- visit your Device Manager and do an "Update Driver" searching the web if the machine is on the web.

Hello Derek,

Does it happen if fast RealTracks generation is turned off in the RealTracks Settings? Does it happen for a specific song, or are you unable to generate any RealTracks at all?

Hi Andrew
it happens with fast generating realtracks on and off, it is not on a specific song because it crashed while i was searching through the styles selecting various types but other times it will generate the realtrack then crash when i try to pause or stop the song.
I also tried what MAC said in his last thread,I updated the drivers for my graphics card then installed the 295 update and it seemed to work ok.I got about 2 hours work on biab with no crashes so fingers crossed "watch this space"
anyway guys thanks for all the help and advice and some of my replys might be a bit late as I think there is about a 8 hour time difference between us ,so when you are on line at night it is early hours of the morning for me
thanks again Dez

I wasn't sure whether to respond here, or the thread called "Bugs in the 2010 Version". My main problem is the occasional white-screen lockup. My main gigging computer is a Dell XPS M1530. It has Vista Home Premium, with an Intel Core 2 duo CPU, 4.00 GB ram, 64 bit system, and build 294. BIAB is the only thing on the computer. I just got a new Dell XPS 1645 laptop (to become my main machine, with the other as backup). It has Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel Core i7 CPU, 8.GB Ram, 64 bit operating system, and build 295. It, too, locksup and turns white at the most unexpected times, no matter what you're doing at the time. BIAB is the only thing on this machine. Maybe a solution can be found for whatever's going on. Hope the problem is not "Dell". I don't recall this ever happening with earlier versions of BIAB.

HI
I dont know but I think it could be BIAB and windows 7 because I never had any problems running it on my old system Windows XP
Again I am not a PC expert but the problem only seems to occur since I got Windows 7

I have off and on problems like that with Vista, but only when viewing the chord sheet, where the song is longer than the page. I can no way get to the proper bars at the end at all. So I put the song on a jump drive and plug it into XP and fix it there. Has to be a drivers issue. Sometimes the scrolling play along feature quits having coloured notes, not a biggie, but I have to quit and restart the program.

Also I do not touch anything while the tracks are generating or I'm very likely to get a grey screen and the program hangs. Does not do that on XP at all, I suspect there has to be a piece of newer O/S code that is not compatible and it might be tough to ferret out.

Those with this video redraw problem:

Try turning Video Acceleration OFF -- and then reboot and check BB operation.

Vista and XP

I don't know if that can be done in Win 7 or not. It may just work about the same as for Vista.

But here is a Wiki page about Hardware Video Acceleration:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DXVA

Some Video Cards have their own Control Panel that accesses the Hardware Video Acceleration setting slider, too. If yours does, just turn that slider all the way down and then try running BB.

This is not just a BiaB situation if it works, some people also have to turn that off just to play DVDs properly. Windoze.

HTH,

Tried all that. 3D acceleration all the way, both ways, reboot. Just learned not to watch the chord screen, use the note based one even if nothing is in it. The chord screen starts messing up on the 2nd pass through most long songs, leaves grey dashes, blocks and over wrights the stuff that was there, shifting down a half line or so.

Thanks for the report, John.

Let's see what other clues we might find here that could help development team sort this one out.
