Hi,
I tried Reaper, I didn't like it at all. I found it very confusing to use. I still think it's a tossup on the PC between Sonar and Pro Tools. I used Cubase for years, but I think the both the forementioned programs are easier to use.
Now, on the Mac side, Logic RULES! The best DAW out now. And way ahead of either Sonar or
In the end, I guess it's a matter of what works best for YOU.

Hi All
I also tried Reaper and found it difficult to get into,I wonder just
how many so called High End users there are?
Agreed that it's a toss-up between Pro Tools and Sonar,so difficult to choose,I use both though
I must confess that I like Pro Tools over Sonar.
I used to use Logic before it became Mac only,and if I could afford a Mac,Logic would be
my preferred DAW,no question.

The reason for Reaper's relative popularity is a bit obvious; it costs a fraction of the others' at $60. If you're starting out on the home recording journey and budget is an issue (and also as a newbie you may be unsure as to whether the hobby is for you) then it's a no-brainer, Reaper is the one. I tried it a while ago out of curiosity but found it difficult to deal with, which is borne out by a recent Sound On Sound review which concluded it was an excellent product but demanded a lot of user pre-configuration:- "Users of other sequencers will usually need some time to adjust to the Reaper mind-set. You need to invest some time in making the many user-configurable settings if you’re going to get the best out of it." It puts a much steeper initial learning curve in front of you, especially if you're coming from another product, but with ample rewards afterwards. SOS Review John

ive tried most daws.
i use powertraks and reap.
i even use pg's nice dx fx plug ins in reap.
for me reap was a breeze to set up..
i was recording in 5 minutes.
dunno why folks say its complex.
as soon as i get some medical billls outta the way my next step
is loads of pg realtraks//rb etc etc.
i'll never go PT.
version 8 is nice , but i wanna stay free of dongles.
to be honest you can do a great song in any daw these days.
includeing just useing powertraks.

Very true. Sonar cost me a pretty sizeable chunk of change. But it's good.

I'm sure a lot of people will switch from other DAW software when the price to feature ratio gets so skewed that it's crazy to pay more for the same features.
Since I'm at version 6 Sonar, my next upgrade is already 3-4 times the entry level purchase price of Reaper. Before I upgrade Sonar again, I will definitely install Reaper and give it a go. I'd be foolish NOT to!
However, RB is already so close to offering all the features I currently depend on Sonar to provide, that I am hoping that the next few upgrades fulfil my wish list items so I can drop Sonar completely and do ALL of my recording with PGMusic products.

Most users have come from Sonar, Cubase, PT, Saw.....
They were looking for a better program. They found it.
The majority have stayed.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unwilling to read the manual. Most experienced Photoshop users would have never got there without the Photoshop Bible.
Reaper is a dream to track in and a great mixing environment. Probably the biggest hurdle is in understanding how to use Routing.
I think I read somewhere that some of the Realtracks were recorded via Reaper.......hmmmm.....
All these programs have their place from the light weight apps to the more advanced. Use what you like... there is no best app...only best app for you or me!

Reaper users almost border on the fanatic side. The reason being they can get a powerful DAW for "free" yep you only pay if you want the nag screen to go away. Don't kid yourself many never pay.
That aside it is a very powerful app, and the routing options are limitless. There has been side by side comparisons done with Both Cubase and Sonar. Both of which had the better feature set when closely compared to Reaper. But for the "price" even when paid for Reaper has a lot going for it.
My complaint is that it is confusing and every time i tracked with it it crashed on me. I had issues with midi files in it. Not a bad deal but more difficult than an app that has the routing more defined.
Once in a while folks around here mention Mutitrackstudio. i prefer it. Many shy away cause it seems simple, but that is the beauty it is simple, but very powerful and best of all solid as a rock. I find MTS to have many rich and easy to use features. The audio editing is very good, and you can track in minutes from the easy setup. On the midi side it is solid and has a prefect routing setup any midi track is treated like an audio track once it leaves the track and goes thru the synth. which is a click and add feature.I still have Reaper on my system, but i use RB and MTS for almost everything. These apps get 'er done.
