This one came to me from nowhere. Used Real Band, Pen to Pad BIAB real tracks(RealBass 3501, RealDrums Nashville, Real Piano 2667, Real Guitar 2552 and RealStrings 2553). My own guitar solo/vox.

Inspired by the silly side of John Prine.

Pony Song

Wish I was a pony, you could tie me to a post
And as long as you'd give me that pony smile, that's what I'd like the most
You'd brush me in the stable, and fill my water pail
And I wouldnt kick you very hard if you pulled my silky tail

Wish I was a singer, I'd write you the perfect song
But all I have is this old voice and the notes come out all wrong
I'd play to you all night and day and try to make you cry
And then I'd lull you sound asleep with a cowboy lullaby

Wish I was an island, I'd have an island band
You'd drink margaritas with your toes deep in the sand
And we'd grow old together, and we'd walk hand in hand
And you would be my island girl and I would be your man

I enjoyed the solo working from the melody...there's not enough of that these days.
The whimsical lyrics were fine..a little sad country and a little fantastical too.
There was something happening each time you started a line - the reverb of something was pumping.
Nice work.

Cool story. Yes, John Prine! I was going to say that. Excellent vocal and, like Ray said, that guitar growing out of the melody is superb.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Often the best songs come from out of "nowhere". And it never hurts to be on the Prine side...

Verses are nicely developed. Enjoyed the listen.

Soundchaser,
Nice soft tune. Good set of lyrics. Flows very well. I assume you play lead guitar on this tune? Mixed well.
Thank you for sharing.

Misha.

Good job. I liked the understated tone of the solo. A jazz or blues tone.

Fun song! Nice write, everything sounds good.

Whimsical and sentimental. Great combination!

Soundchaser,

A really sweet vibe to this . . . reminds me of a Ricky Nelson type tune. I think the production is pretty solid.

Lyrically, and I may be an exception here, I’m not fond of that last line of the first verse, and I don’t think it fits with the rest of the song. By saying “I wouldn't kick you very hard” you suggest that you would kick her nonetheless. I’d be tempted to reword that to say something along the Ines that you would not kick her at all no matter how hard she pulled your tail, or something like. Hopefully my suggestion makes sense. Use or lose as they say.

But a nicely written and sounding tune—enjoyed the listen!

Best regards,

Deej

That was good!
Yes, certainly in the vein of John Prine.

Well Done.

Beautiful melody and a nice story with fun, melancholy and romance. Very good selection of instruments, I enjoyed the vocals. Just bit too short, but gives a good reason to listen again.
