I tried the first two StoneZ1 Real Track Solo instruments (Numbers 497, 498, etc.) and neither would play anything during the E (or E7) chord.
Huh?

Yep, your right those tracks will not play 7th chords in keys that I tried but they would play standard chords in your case E, A and B. However they will play a 7th chord shot (in your case 'E7..d') and an ending 'E7...' shot.
And they will also play 9th chords which are a good substitute for the 7th. That is instead of B7 try B9 and so on.
The tracks you mention are of course not solos but rhythm tracks.
I agree if they play the shots as 7ths then they should also play 7th chords.
No doubt this will be fixed sometime.

Well, the song is in the key of Am.
497, 498, etc. didn't play an E or and E7. Neither.

Yes, understood. But they're listed under the Soloist button and I'm trying various things out.

Sometime?
Why would it go out the showroom this way?
Didn't somebody try it first? Honestly, I'm confused.

Good point. All I can say is next time Peter asks for beta testers, apply so you too can see just how complex this stuff really is. You should email a snippet of this that they can listen to so it can be fixed.

Well Am should not matter. The standard chord E plays for me fine but not the 7th chords. Have you updated your Real tracks and drums under the support menu??
If you can get chord E to play, as I said you can use E9 instead of E7 (E9 is E7 with an extra F# note for spice) - not a great deal of difference with that honky guitar. Cheers F

The 'E', EMaj or 'E5' (power) chord should work fine. E7 doesn't (but E9 does). (same for other 7ths chords). That will be fixed in the next patch.

Bob
Bob,
I’ve thought about contacting PGMusic about being a Beta tester and depending on how much is involved I now officially volunteer to Peter to do so.
But as far as “how complex this stuff really is,” that’s just the point. What I do is not complicated at all. Which I’ll get to in a moment.
The other thing is, these kind of things should be worked out before Beta. There should be unit level testing with each added feature or phase of development as well as UAT (user acceptance testing) before Beta and certainly before RTM (release to manufacture).
And, as alluded to before, I’m not doing anything that complicated. I’m probably the most basic user of BiaB there is. I type in some chords, select a Style and press Play. That’s really just about all I do. And I only use the program about two hours or so a month!
And I’d say in the past eight months I have discovered about a dozen Individual items that either didn’t work at all or didn’t work as described.
Sorry if this appears as a rant. Not the intention. Just illustrating a problem. And the frustration factor is heightened because BiaB is such an amazing application. It deserves better.
Thanks for listening, - Mark

It isn't really what you do that's complicated, it's how BAIB takes what you do and translates it into professional - sounding music that's incredibly complicated ...
Bear in mind that each release of real track includes anything up to 100 new soloists or subsoloists, and there are literally hundreds of potential chords before you include /bass chords, pushes, rests etc. The beta testers put in hundreds of hours of listening / experimenting, and find lots and lots of things that require tweaking - and they pretty well all get tweaked. It would be physically impossible to test every combination soloist, style, chord etc etc. Hence the benefit of the Forum to PG, and to the rest of us, when member report glitches. Long term users are generally very sanguine about things which don't work 1st time, because over the years we've realised just how complex BAIB actually is, and how good Peter is at sorting things out, generally very quickly indeed.
On balance, I feel that your comments are a tad unfair...
Brian

Yes indeed. More than 20 years of research have gone into this software and there's nothing around that matches or even comes close. I run numerical modelling software which is a speciality software developed by a small group of people and believe me there are always some bugs. You have to learn to do work arounds these things. BIAB is not developed by Microsoft with literally tens of thousands working away at the software. And yet MS still have to bring out Service Pack 1, SP2 etc etc. to fix things. Your problem is very minor, be happy with what BIAB can do and stop focusing in on one small aspect and blowing it up out of proportion, is my advice. I'm sure you have not explored to see what BIAB CAN do. Fantastic guitar backings if your patient enough to explore. Best wishes F

Read my post.
It's not "one small aspect."
It's been about a dozen.

When you find something specific that does not work the problem should then
a) be verified. This can be done by giving complete specifics and asking someone here who has experience in testing to verify your results. b) once verified anyone here will tell you the normal course of action is to contact support at pgmusic daught com and let them know with specifics. You usually get an email back in 3 to 5 working days depending on what they are up to...
Given how shocked you are by all this I hope you can work things out with them and get a refund. At the same time try and get one from Microsoft, they have way more issues. Bill will drop by with a cheque, an apology and an update to windows 7 which won't work with most of you hardware. Do not hold your breath.
This title should have been: Would someone confirm for me that the StoneZ1 Does Not play an E (sol).
Not:
The StoneZ1 Don't Play an E?
The sentence above is incomplete and Don't is not a word.

If the "The StoneZ1 Don't Play an E?" then "The StoneZ1 Don't Play an E!" -- don't shoot the messenger! These things are important to know about.

In that most communication is non-verbal (actually almost all of it!) and that I despise those smiley faces I had my tongue in my cheek and a grin on my stupid face.
I admit to having meds or booze change the written tone. Not to mention trying NOT to take stupid narco crap and bite my lip. Oh well....all is well, we shall all be dust sooner or later.
You never know if when someone posts in a fake accent or cracker speak if they are foolin' either eh?
So I'm taking a trip today eh? The wife and me in the Mini, she prolly hast to have all fun driving to Point Pelee, concentration is tough today.
We checked last night and I didn't glow in the dark yet so that's a good sign!

The 'E' chord works fine (except when it is the V chord. E5 should work fine in that case as a worksround.)
E7 doesn't work (but E9 does). (same for other 7ths chords).
That will be fixed in the next patch.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!
With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
